  1. Plugging in Controller Powers on Console - Why?

I've wondered this since I bought a play and charge kit for main Xbox One controller. Why does plugging in the controller turn the console on?

It's beyond stupid in my opinion. A lot of the time I'll shut down my console by holding the guide button on the controller when I'm done playing and when I get up and decide to plug my controller in so to charge, it turns the console on and I have to turn
    it off again.

This has to be the dumbest feature of anything I own. My only thought is that when you plug in the controller and it switches to wired mode for less latency, this requires some software switch, but that seems like something that could wait until the next
time I power the console on, or something that could be done while the console is asleep.

    :)

Can't connect controller on initial setup

Console is a 1TB version that comes with Madden 16 dowload

I can't connect a controller on initial setup. Console powers on, shows the controller on screen. When I press the xbox button on the controller, the xbox light on the controler flashes, but never connects.

I have tried the following with two brand new controllers (they synced and updated on another console without issue):

    1. multiple sets of fresh batteries.

    2. pressing the sync button on the front left corner of the xbox one, and holding the sync the button on the controller until the logo flashes fast. Also, controller sync first, then xbox sync.

    3. plugging the controller into the console via micro usb cable.

    4. Unplugging the console, and plugging it back in to power.

Does the console sync button work before initial setup is complete?

Do you need to hold down the console sync button or just press and release?

Should something happen to the console logo when you press the console sync button (the console power button/logo stays solid)?

I am at loss and believe the brand new console is defective.

Controller no longer powers on console

Have you tried connecting the controller to the console with a cable (if you have one) and then updating the firmware? See if you can switch the console on using a cabled controller - I would hope that would work.

Then try the steps you have already undertaken again with the cable unplugged.

(Worked for me last month, or could just have been dumb luck)

As your controller can only be charged while the console is on and provides power to the USB port, this should be the explanation of this.

  5. Seriously? How are you an ambasssdor?

The console can charge devices while it's off. Even the 360 can do it. If it couldn't, the light on the USB cabke wouldn't be on while the console is in sleep mode and as I've stated after plugging in the controller and turning the console back off, my controller
    continues to charge.

  6. This is something I have wondered myself to be honest. You are correct the controller does charge while the console is in sleep mode. I just got in the habit of plugging the controller up prior to powering the console down. It should be possible theoretically,
to have this changed in a future update. I would suggest going to the following page
Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice And creating a topic for the devs to see (If there isn't one already). That site was designed for us to offer feedback and shape the Xbox, and Xbox live experiences. You
would def get a vote from me!

Admiral, I don't think rudeness is ever the answer to any question. This is a support forum, and whether a particular answer is correct or not, insulting people who are just trying to help isn't the best course of action.

As to your question, I agree it is unusual behavior, and perhaps it is something they can address in a controller update. For now, it appears that plugging in the controller powers the controller on, and as a general rule, when the controller turns on, it
sends the signal to power up the box. The box can be shut back down and the controller will continue charging.

As Vashta said, the feedback site is VERY active and some things from that site have already been added by the Xbox team, so you might consider adding this there as a suggestion.

Plugging in Controller Powers on Console - Why?

Well, to "defend" myself: I have a 360 also, but an elite version and a play and charge kit, and it does not continue loading, when I power off my 360. So that's were I supposed the One to do the same, especially when in energy saving mode.

And for the rest of your very "polite" post: this may be one of the 4 or 5 posts out of 550 verified support posts where I was wrong , so it may just be human to make such mistakes. You at least, did not know the answer at all. So maybe think on your words
again. And well, read what Jaymo said on this. Plugging in Controller Powers on Console - Why? ;)

  9. I apologize for the rude post, but something as simple as charging a controller seems like a topic an Xbox Ambassador should know about, considering there is very little info to know.

Regardless, I've owned two original fat arcade 360s and my current slim one and they all charge while turned off and I can guarantee with 100% certainty that unless something is wrong with your console, your elite will also charge while powered off.
