    Plex streaming wierdness - 1080p videos look perfect but 480p mkvs are blurred slightly


    On my home network i am able to stream 1080p mkv to xboxone from PMS on my laptop and it looks perfect. When I play a 480p mkv rip the picture is blurred/washed out via the Plex app on either the xboxone OR samsung hdtv. If i plug my external HD directly
    into the xboxone via usb and use the xboxone media player app - the 480p mkv looks correct.

    The 480p video is not very sharp via plex - I can tell mostly when text is on screen (titles/forced subtitles) when compared to the actual DVD or when played through the media app. I'd prefer to use the plex app over the media app.

    Could this be a problem with hardware/graphics acceleration on my laptop?

    Anyone else not like the new update?

    With the Plex 1080p mkv videos, I had to move those videos into the home videos section on Plex. It's where you are making a new folder and it asks you if you are making a movie, TV show, etc folder. Choose home videos. They won't be as organized as the other folders, but you can still play them. I think it might be the Plex app and nothing to do with MS

    The big one I've seen is Plex and there is a Plex app on the Xbox Store. I'm not well versed in these things, but there are quite a few video tutorials on YouTube about Plex and Xbox One.

    I'm pretty sure you'll need something to work as a 'Media server' to put your videos on to share with your console. As I understand it, Plex can transcode MKV videos.
    This is not what I want at all. I want an MKV file to be transcoded locally into an MP4 that is stored onto my Xbox one as a local file.

    I think you've answered part of that yourself. The video player is pausing because your connection speed isn't fast enough for the video you are watching. There isn't much you can do here I'm afraid. Most of the streamed content on Xbox LIVE is in HD
    only. The only exception to this rule are streamed movie rentals which are available in 480p as well as 1080p.

    For you to watch the streamed content you will have to pause it first and wait for enough of the video to download before you play it.

    Xbox has many of it's videos available on YouTube. That may be a better option for you as they have 360p and 480p options.
