Please stop chasing low hanging fruit and FIX THIS CONSOLE.

As an owner for over a year, my frustration with this console has remained high. Every time I turn it on, I see new features that are pointless, redundant, and are no where near correcting the issues of both the UI and the system itself. Why? Here's a
short list of the issues that have been plaguing this console since I've owned it, and they are STILL NOT FIXED: 1] Games refuse to close when the console is turned off, despite clearly quitting the game. I've seen this too many times, turn the console back
on, and the game is loaded, ready to play as though I've never left. Destiny is a big offender, always greeting me with the message "You've been returned to orbit" despite having closed the game. 2] The message snap refuses to close on unsnap. This is such
an apparent issue that a "fix" has been thrown in to which I need to "double tap" (try doing that easily on these new, cheap controllers) and select "Unsnap". Why is this not fixed? 3] The messaging app still takes up a full page to send a message. Worse,
to begin the message, one has to "snap" the app. This system is so insanely developed that I'd rather it be removed completely and fixed properly. 4] There's no way to share our OneDrive storage from the 360 to the One. This is just downright stupid. Sorry,
but it is. 5] The included microphone seems to be designed to intentionally stop working after three months. 6] The UI is horrible. H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. The ridiculousness of having to scroll to the right just to access anything is just plain stupid. I can't fathom
why all the design work of the 360 was thrown out and replaced with this crap. Any particular reason why scrolling DOWN is a problem? Did the UI developers think our HDTVs have touch screens to side scroll? To make matters worse, when I'm done "previewing"
anything (such as game descriptions), and hit "B" to return, instead of going back to one level, IT TAKES ME CLEAR BACK TO THE TOP MENU. Did NO ONE in the UI team use their own product to test? This is such a horrendous oversight it makes me wonder if there's
any real work going on to improve the UI at all. I hate this UI and I'm not afraid to speak my mind about it. Instead of getting it fixed, we get stupid trinkets like background images and transparent tiles. Yes, this will totally make the navigation worth
using! No, it won't. FIX. THE. UI. PLEASE. Definitely put the game disk icon back in the upper left. I also don't like the "last app used" layout of the main page. If I go into settings once, I don't need the icon on the main page. I've pinned it. In fact,
let us PIN these boxes of what we want to see, not what the console thinks we want access to. 7] The Party app sucks. Poorly designed and, frankly, I should NEVER have to scroll multiple pages just to find a user to add to the party. For crying out loud, larger
images don't make for better UI selectors. That's my short list. There are other issues, but I feel these may be nitpicking because they're not working as I think they should, but do work once the nuance of their design is tolerated. I don't hate this console,
just to say. I'm just frustrated because, over a year, it's still not designed well enough to make it user friendly. Forums (even this one) berate the UI constantly, and it goes unnoticed or ignored by Microsoft. There's simply no excuse for this, especially
since the kinks were worked out in the era of the 360. While it's not perfect, it works well. Finally, because these preview sessions haven't really bore me any hopes for an improved design and app management system, I'd like to request I be removed from the
preview program. I may get my own wish as I refuse to accept the new terms, but this means two more months of annoying messages (which proves how mundane this system UI is, as THIS NOTICE SHOULD BE GIVEN BEFORE THE UPDATE IS APPLIED). My apologies if I came
off as rude. Text doesn't translate emotion, but I want to say I'm not angry, just frustrated a $500 console can't give users the best experience it can, especially when its sister console did it better. Thanks for reading and have a nice day. -Robert

Call of Duty Ghost freezes one Xbox 360, but not another.

I will start a new thread. I tried the troublershooter that you pointed out before I did anything else, as that was pretty low hanging fruit.

Yeah Kinect Adventures is fun, I still need to try Fruit Ninja Kinect, and I am hanging out for the game that used to be Project Draco to be released.

 

I honestly gave up reading, try to structure what you are trying to get across instead of a wall of text. This way people may actually take the time to read your rant

 

[1] Games are supposed to start up quickly - that's the whole point of the XB1. If you don't want it to start up again, you have to press the menu button while it's selected on the home screen and choose "quit." Alternatively, you can change your console
settings to "power-saver" settings so it won't do this. This is a fault of yours, not the console - if you're not willing to learn how the console operates, then I can't help you when you complain about something like this, which is a completely unecessary
complaint. Learn the console and you wouldn't suffer this particular issue.

[2] Read #1 again to learn how to close it.

[3] The only legit complaint you have is that it goes to full-screen when you want to send a message - that should probably change, so I agree with you here; it should do this while snapped (but how would they show us the keyboard then?). As for it snapping,
I'd rather it snap to the side instead of in the middle of the screen like the 360 does, which immediately interrupts whatever you're doing.

[4] Not sure what you're getting at here. Anything saved to the Onedrive can be accessed from both the 360 and the One - that's the point; the cloud can be accessed from anywhere. I can access my Onedrive from my 360, One, PC, smartphone, and tablet. You're
telling me you can't?

[5] My headset has worked fine since the day I got it, which has been at least a year, so maybe you were just unfortunate enough to get a defective one? Or maybe you don't take very good care of it? In any case, there's plenty of other options out there
for you to choose from: the stereo headset, Astros, or Turtlebeaches for example.

[6] To my knowledge, most cultures read left to right, not top-down (although there are a few exceptions), so to me at least, this makes perfect sense. Also, most TVs nowadays are widescreen, so you can fit more going from left to rgiht.

[7] There ARE legitimate concerns with the party app, like not being able to hear others, issues joining, or random drops, etc. These are what you should concern yourself with - not the size of the icons.

MS doesn't ignore your concerns. If anything, they've been listening to our feedback on their new feedback site, where you can visit and offer suggestions yourself like everyone else. Why else do you think the console has been slowly improving virtually
every single month since it released?

As for your request to remove yourself from the preview program, you can make your request through the preview app and it should take affect at the next major update.

 

Uhm, scroll left and right? 360 have that, Ps4 has that..even pc apps, most anything is scroll left and right. Having everything bunched up vertically would be a mess.

Also, there have been a ton of updates. A lot of good ones. The console isn't horrible just because you don't like the updates. Remember the 360 in the beginning? Alot changed over the years. You can't expect 7 years of updates to come in under the first
year.

http://xbox.uservoice.com/ . I posted there a few times. I said I wanted the UI to show WHEN offline friends were last online (eg. 2 hours ago, 3 days ago). And guess what.... Microsoft rolled out an Update last year so it now has that feature. It's where
Microsoft reads. You only get Support Staff and Moderators on here usually. You use to be able to post feedback in a separate forum section but they wanted to dedicate a site to feedback which I think is really good.

I'm with you on the UI thing though. It just has Windows 8 all over it. I guess they have to promote their products. Windows 10 is expected this year so you may see a change to the UI layout. Since joining late 2010, I've also seen several UI layout changes
to Xbox 360. I actually did a comparison video between it and the 360 on my Youtube channel. It is better than what it was at Launch. They're adding new stuff on pretty much a monthly bases because Microsoft knows Xbox 1 was missing A LOT of Xbox Live Features
which Xbox 360 has and they were getting pressure by a lot of feedback for it. They tried to keep us happy by returning most of the missing features. I remember when Xbox 1 first came out, it didn't even have Dolby support, just that cheap Stereo Uncompressed.
Xbox current boss is Phil he's great because he's actually listening to the feedback and trying to implement it on Xbox 1 and his passion is Xbox. I also agree Voice translates emotion better than txt. You could write it in caps but that method you just come
around as screaming especially with exclamation marks. Speaking of Voice, there is actually A LOT of votes for Voice Messaging aka Xbox Live Feature, to return to Xbox 1.

Unfortunately the X1 was designed with the idea that everyone would use Kinect to navigate. It is a cumbersome design for controller navigation.

Been seeing a few rumors lately that the X1 could see a big UI overhaul inline with Windows 10, true or not I don't know, I certainly wouldn't be surprised though.

 

Got to say, i'm impressed with the monthly updates and tweaks to the UI. (Love the transparent tiles!)

Where is the option to turn it off don't have a background so don't need them transparent

 

Well, if the OP has been a Xbox One owner for "over a year", then he would have to have the Kinect, since that bundle wasn't available in January 2014. He could just say, "Xbox unsnap", and voila!

 

I have kinect but I don't like using it.

 

I absolutely agree with and echo everything GG said. So with that being said, I have nothing further to post.
