Please Investigate Glitched Gamertags And Release Them So People Can Properly Claim Them

We recently released a huge batch of Gamertags that were quickly scooped up by excited gamers. It's possible some of the Gamertags you've tried to select have already been taken. Keep in mind, spaces in a name do not count as original characters, so if a GT
was created with a space in between characters, the same GT could not be created without a space.

Ambassadors are volunteer gamers and we do not actually work for Microsoft so there is nothing we can do regarding getting you the gamertag.

There is no way to request a specific gamertag. If the system is telling you the gamertag is taken, then there is nothing you can do. It would be in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The tag system is in use on other Microsoft services. Also, the system
doesn't see things like spaces as making gamertags unique. So if you're searching for "gamertag" it might say it's not in use when it is actually in use as "gamer tag".

What are we supposed to do when someone has a glitches Gamertag that's preventing it from being released? How can I make a certain Gamertag aware to Microsoft so they can investigate it and see how to move it forward so someone can properly purchase it?

Last night in an effort to see what was wrong with the Gamertag I want, I found out that people were able to glitch Gamertags by spacing the letters out, so that way they can have both the spaced out GT and the regular one, making it "glitched" and they
can then claim that GT for themself and most likely sell it, which is pathetic. :/

They don't discuss when they will be releasing gamertags simply due to the fact that people try to claim tags and then sell them. It's best if they tell no one so everyone has an equal opportunity to grab it.

The very reason they stopped doing mass releases of gamertags is because people were claiming them & selling them so it's not going to happen again.

As of Aug 2016 any gamertag that is not signed in on any Microsoft service for 5 years may be freed up & as of Aug 2019 if the account that a gamertag is linked to does not sign in to any Microsoft service then it may be freed up so as of today some unused gamertags may become available.

Investigations can take time. So forced gamertag changes won't happen immediately. As long as you reported them, the enforcement team will investigate them though.
