Please help with video file format for converting to xbox

Hi all,

Im having trouble converting my video files to a format that xbox can see/play and I don't know why.

I'm using VLC player to do the conversion. I've tried selecting the WMV codec (VLC puts it in an ASF container), and the xbox wouldn't see it. I've tried divx and the xbox sees it but won't play it.

Its doing my head in. According to everything I've read the xbox should play WMV, DIVX, MP4, AVI, but I have video files in all these formats that the xbox won't play, and others in the same formats that it will.

Can anyone tell me the correct video conversion settings to use please in as much detail as possible.

Sounds like a frustrating experience!

You mentioned you're converting some of the video file formats. After doing that, can you test this issue out again and let us know if it still occurs when playing different file formats?

Watching video files from DVDs...

I ran into this issue this weekend I thought all codec files would be supported by now, here's a few links that appear to be useful ..... although I haven't had the time to investigate as of yet.

In reply to the OP I use AVI myself aswell as MP4 and the xbox finds them all. You may also need to download the media update to add extra codec to the console. Find that here

OP have you downloaded the optional media update? You could also try downloading twitch as i was having trouble playing xvid files but after updating twitch all is working well.

 

Try a better converter, Google FREEMAKE. Its a totally free converter and is very very good
