Please help with configuring parent and child accounts

Can anyone recommend a good website that can help me understand how the various child/adult accounts work with the Xbox 360?

My 9 year old son is the only user of the console and he has a child account, but I have an account set up that is connected to the credit card for payment. I have never understood the privacy control settings to get things to download. I have managed to
get him a few games that work, but I never really understood what I was doing. (I actually hate this system with a vengence and wish Santa had never brought it. It has been nothing but HOURS of frustration getting things to download.)

The latest problem has been with Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. The game won't start without requiring a 2GB "upgrade" to be downloaded even though we just purchased the game on CD. The upgrade download was free, but my son couldn't download it because
"Premium Content" was blocked on his account. I had to unblock premium content on his account in order to get the download to run.

The other confusing part of this game is that it REQUIRES an Xbox Gold membership to run. That was not a fun surprise. I went ahead and bought him a membership and connected the membership to his Xbox live account that is a child account. The Plants vs
Zombies game won't run at all without the Gold membership so I didn't think I could run the download under my adult account. (Although I didn't try.)

What is the correct configuration, login process, whatever to use to manage the Xbox downloads? I would appreciate some examples of how other parents are setting this up for their kids.There should be some way my son can download free content or Gold content
without needing my password. And I would like to understand the account settings to feel like access to the credit card is protected.

How do the family settings work?

I need help configuring this. When i use family settings, is there a way u can put a couple "child accounts" under a "parent account" and from the parent account the restrictions can be controlled for the 2 child accounts or do I have to configure those
seperately for each child account?

Also, if I put family settings on one child account and that account is recovered on another xbox, will the content restrictions still apply to the account? Please help with this because I have a little brother and young cousins coming to town in a few days
and it's my job to make sure they dont play the bad stuff. And I'm at work most of time so I can control them with this.

Unable to add son to xbox one

As above,

Select child
Sign in as parent
get to the 50c card authorisation, add card details
Then get card already exists on account - go through screens - again!!

Then after about 10 minutes updating account it fails with code 45468.7036976521340.5055251569016685

Go to xbox errorhelp - can't find it

Can anybody help please we are pulling our hair out on this

Just to say the card is on account from xbox and also Microsoft accounts linked to the parents account!

There are some games that are online games only. You can always purchase a pre paid card for the membership at a local retailer or on line. This way your card can be removed from the account. You can also purchase currency cards at your local retailer and
this allows them a certain amount of money to be spent while online that is a set amount. When it's gone it's gone.

If it is a content restricted child account you may have to configure a parent account before having the child account configured.

So configure an adult account for yourself or set up a new one for you. Then configure the account of your son. After that you can configure a family add your son and continue with the parental controls for your son's account.

If you don't have your own account yet, just set one up. Your do not need to have a good subscription for it.

Without an adult account setting specific permissions,
that might also be interfering as it defaults to setting for a child account. Having an adult account adding you to the Microsoft Account family is the best way to ensure the settings for the account are configured in a way that you're comfortable.

Parent and child accounts on Xbox are designed to help parents manage their children’s gaming activities. A parent account is the primary account that can create and manage child accounts. Child accounts are created for children under the age of 18 and are linked to the parent account. The parent account can set up parental controls, such as screen time limits, content restrictions, and spending limits, for each child account.

You cannot change your account to be a child account. You will have to create a new account for your child.

To create a child account, the parent account must first create a family group. The family group can have up to six members, including the parent account. Once the family group is created, the parent account can add a child account to the group. The child account will be linked to the parent account and will have access to the parent account’s Xbox Live Gold subscription and other benefits.
