    So, this is freakin' driving me NUTS; I bought a brand new, Seagate, two terabyte drive (USB 3.0) specifically for capturing game play. I plug it in, get asked how I want to use it (media), then I go to settings/storage set the new drive as my capture location. Then I get the notice that this will allow longer captures etc. BUT when I go to the capture settings, despite this drive being chosen as the capture location, I get NO increase in available capture lengths, at any resolutions - just the same, short options that you get when using the internal drive as capture location. This is the second drive that I have tried, as well as trying a 256 gb Micro SD.

    Hi you can actually increase te record length of 1080p if you save the game captures to an external hard drive. However it cannot be a drive that you also use to save games to. It needs to be formatted as NTFS and not prepared as an internal drive. You
    will then be able to save game captures to it and increase the length of the captures.

    Hi,

    The Storage Epansion card from Seagate is for Xbox game installs/downloads. It can't be used to record gameplay, which is why your Google searches were unsuccessful.

    All you need to capture externally is an inexpensive USB 3.0 storage device. A suitable flash drive can do it.

    Capture Xbox game clips to external storage.

    Hi there!

    Your Xbox One X's has three USB 3.0 ports (that includes the front). So it should be okay to use the front port for external devices.

    You can surely use 14TB of external. But please note that when connecting external drives via USB 3.0, do not connect any single drive larger than 16 TB, and no more than three external drives total at the same time. External storage larger than that will not work.
