Please Help!! Memory issue?

I have been playing on a refurbished xbox 360. I just got an ethernet cord to connect it to xbox live. When I go to Xbox live this message appears:

A system update is available from Xbox live. If you decline, you won't be able to connect to XBox live until you tale the update.

So push okay to update it. It tells be I do not have enough storage space to take this update I need a storage device with at least 190MB of free space.

I go to settings and check my hard drive. It says I have 101GB free. The hard drive is formatted to FAT32, and I have been using it to store my game progress. I do not believe it has an internal hard drive.

Any suggestions?!

I see. In your original post it sounded like you actually opened the console. Have you tried using the console without the hard drive attached? If not remove it and turn it on. Does the issue remain?

Temhotabot, read it a little closer. He said when he opened it, it asked about creating a profile and such. That's all done via the dashboard. Doesn't sound like any tampering.

External drives don't count as drives for update purposes. You'll need to find an internal drive.

OP, I'm curious if this is a memory issue. Does the same issue occur when all memory devices are removed from the console? For other posters in this thread who are not having the same issue, please create a new thread so we can give you our full attention
and help resolve your issue.

What exactly do you mean by this? Did you open the console? If yes then you just voided any remaining warranty on it, thus making it impossible to send to MS for a repair, even if you offer to pay for it.

When i said ``i opened the xbox``, i meant turned it on. The first thing it asked was to create or download a profile. Thanks for the advice
