Please fix the october changes.

All of the buttons on the Xbox One controller are the same as they were on the Xbox 360 controller with the exception of 2. Yes, you're correct - the "menu" button is what used to be the "start" button. The other button that has changed is the "view" button
which is what used to be the "back" button. Otherwise, the controller's exactly the same in terms of buttons.

As for the snap center, I personally don't think it gets in the way much at all, especially since it disappears once you make a selection or back out. As for whether you can disable it, I'm fairly certain you can't. If you don't like using it though, you
could always use the voice commands (by getting a Kinect if you don't have one) instead.

 

I personally think Microsoft needs to fix the current UI/OS before adding features. The fact there is no way to easily see what's open amazes me. They wanted "seemless" transition but that comes at cost. There are plenty of complaints of games crashing that
aren't related to the game but rather to memory issues.

This will become a bigger problem as more apps are added and the optimization of those apps may be questionable.

I like many others are starting to see the UI get slower. The current solutions are keeping your console in "energy saver" mode or do hard reboots daily/hourly depending on what you're opening. Those are only solutions if it's memory issues. Others say it's
actually a DNS issues and recommend switching to the Google DNS servers.

I'm less concerned about where my friends tab is and more concerned about why it takes me 10 seconds to get my guide up and change a TV channel.

 

I've learned to get in the habit of actually quitting out of everything I open when I'm done, so I don't suffer from these UI/OS slowdown issues you speak of...

I shut everything down too with the "quit" option but as with any software how much of it is actually shut down. Many applications still leave processes running even after shut down.

Why isn't everyone seeing the UI/OS slowdowns? The "spinning white circle" is becoming increasingly common on both my 360 and One (360 has horrible load times for me). I can rule out a memory issue on the 360 so I'm leaning towards it being a DNS issue on
both consoles.

So why me not you? I have a 300/50 connection so are my speed expectations higher than others? Is it my ISP's DNS? I believe I can manually enter DNS settings on the 360 ( I know you can on the One) so I'll do some testing this afternoon.

The console is supposed to be for the non tech savy yet it currently has issues that require some knowledge of how things work to solve problems. Simple solution to memory issues is some type of symbol on open apps as a reminder or a "task manger". App optimization
is out of our hands so reboots will probably always be the best solution.

Reboots are always a good solution when it comes to electronics.

 

I sort of like the friends tab, but I have no idea why the put it on the right, why didn't they leave it on the left? (except the text at the bottom would be an issue)

I am also more interested in the stuff on the friends page more than the stuff on the tab, I mean do I really need to know the GS, or do I need to know who is in their party?

I do however really like the double tap middle button thats is very cool (even as a kinect preferer)

 

I'm seeing the UI slow downs as well. I did a comparison vid between the 360 and 1 UI on my YT channel I think G has seen it. Many of my friends don't like the Windows 8 feel of it too. It doesn't look kid friendly like the Xbox 360's UI. In my vid, you
clearly see that the 360 UI is faster. Xbox 1 has better hardware too and 8GB of RAM, not 512MB.

I commend them for adding the Friends tab. Maybe they'll rename it later on to Social like 360. I like the flashy LIVE tiles on the Xbox 1 Dash I just wish they incorporated the Avatars into the friends tab just like what they've done on 360.

 

I think the friends page is still slower than the 360, but the friends tabs isn't slow. It will take time but there are things still to come, refining and taking advantage of new stuff is another.

 

Regarding SSB's YouTube video, I'd just like to point out that it is many months old - there have been numerous updates since.

What I find funny is that the friends list was located to the right on the Xbox 360, so when they changed it to appease all of the people who wanted it to be more like the Xbox 360, those same people complained about why they moved it to the right because
they learned to like it on the left! I love the irony.

 

@smiles besides the Guide button I found the 360 dash and still do quite messy and bloated. I do like the more cut down X1 version much better, but I agree that it's not perfect and needs some tweeks still. My kids have no trouble using the X1 and the UI.

 

Of course, Rippen! Kids learn quickly!

 

@Galactic Geek, Well, i tried your suggestion with the friends app, it wouldn't work. I get the feeling you thought i meant just that small green box version that said 'friends' when i referred to the bigger side version, the green box app can be pinned,
but provide no quick glance info like the bigger one.

As for the snap centre.. It really does get in the way, a lot. Like i said, the general purpose of that new menu is basically an "We know you're in a hurry to switch focus from one thing to another but are you absolutely sure you want to switch to it right
NOW?"

That extra delay really makes a difference when i'm in a hurry to switch back to the game to avoid dying or you name it. I'm absolutely sure i'd rather not have an extra menu always second guessing me when i could instead have the older version that did
exactly what i input commands for, which was "switch focus to the other" not "bring me a menu to choose to switch over"

 

I like the new update. Step in the right direction once again. Now if I could just get voice and video messages, music unsnapped and dashboard customizations I'll be happy

 

Have it so i can put things where i want them. Off/on option if i want running or not.

 

Skcarkden, I'm sorry that my idea didn't work for you, but if you have a Kinect (or get 1 if you don't), you can bypass all of that simply by saying, "Xbox go to [insert game or app here]" or "Xbox snap [insert game or app here]." It really is convenient!*

*if set up and calibrated properly.
