Playstation Now announcement. Sound Familiar?

What are you talking about? This so they can stream Older games. And chances are they will end up changing it down the road because I don't see it working out too well.

I was going to go as staff, but sadly I have obligations keeping me here.

Be good to see if there is any announcement on the new Gears, and I'll be interested if Sony does anything on Playstation Now.

 

Is xbox doing a security update?

Cheers bit weird xbox normally do an announcement. Just don't want to find out it is like the playstation hack!

 

Im not paying anything to play old games that i will have no desire to play once the real games start rolling out.

 

Well this is just a streaming service that allows you to "rent" old ps3 games. I don't see the hype. Next gen has arrived. I don't want to spend more money streaming old games I already played or own. Never would have guessed lots of people get excited to
play games again you have already played.

 

This is going to fail hard. All im saying.

 

Its just a Netflix for old PS games at this point. For those looking forward to NEW games, that service is useless. There is only a handful of old PS I would play and it wouldn't be for very long.

 

Warlok, you have not understood it at all. This is not any sort of DRM.

They are not streaming the computed graphics over cloud, you are effectively playing the game on another computer through your device, and the cloud is streaming the video data to you, through your device, like the way you can do with the PS Vita and PS4,
But allowing you to access older games.

How good this is remains to be seen, not very imo, not on the PS4, but perhaps on other media devices it will be. especially for those without a Playstation of any kind. To avoid any sort of input lag you will require a very good connection. Up and down.

 

Sony is to allow the playing of all older PS games over a smart tv, at the moment it is only for Sony TV's but will roll out across other brands in the near future.

Well, there's no discs, but then again you can't play the discs you already have.

We did, but it was called OnLive, or GameTap, or Gaikai.

Both facilitate the playing of games, but
neither service is "the same thing".

They're choosing to believe the hype at CES. Turns out the server for the games shown at CES was "down the hall" from the main
convention floor.

And I'd be willing to bet Netflix actually needs more bandwidth to stream movies than Now will. I own dozens of digital PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3 and have dozens more that I would play on this service in a heartbeat. Most of these games are a couple 100 mb
so unless your on dial up it'll work fine.

There are still plenty of gamers that value gameplay over pretty graphics that will gladly play older games. Look at the success of GoG and even Steam is releasing more and more classic games. If they add Trophy support for these games even better.

 

Honestly I think this is the future of gaming, Sony and M$ has two different visions of the future of gaming. Sony doesn't want to create a "box" under your tv, thats not a very profitable model. Instead they want to create software that can be installed
onto any thing that allows you to stream games. It pretty much gives them 100% profitability, and the consumer doesn't have to pay the high price for a box any more, so its really a win win. M$ on the other hand, want to keep the same less portable less consumer
method by selling you the same high-priced box + subscription method that has been around for ages. With their only difference is a camera that doesn't do its job very well. Obviously M$ fanboys will not see Sony's vision, but its really a great one. PS now
in its current form is really just a beta for what will be the ps5. In its current form, its biggest market will not be to the hardcore gamer, it will be for people that enjoy gaming, but not enough to pay for the "box", for kids that only have a wii, and
would like to play more games. The bashing of this service is stupid, this advances gaming for both companies, unfortunately M$ doesn't have the catalog/intelligence to create it.

 

Of course there are gamers who want and will play old PS titles, they wouldn't be doing this for nothing. I, however, am not one of those gamers who would have a need or want to play majority of the titles they will offer. By the time I get bored of my XB1
games and will have a PS around, it will have a large library that I'll enjoy for a bit. But most of my favorite classic PS games are already on my 360.

 

I agree, why play older games when you have next gen games, IDK don't see the point in that.
