Playing with gold

The game you want to play may have been a Xbox One free game with gold game. If that is the case, then you need gold to continue playing it. If you no longer want gold, then purchasing the game will be your only option to continue playing the game.

360 Games with Gold games can be played without an active Gold subscription. Xbox One games required a Gold subscription to continue playing them for free.

Currently, you still need Gold to play all games online. They are working to remove the requirement from free to play games, but you do need Gold to play Apex at this time.

You need Gold to play online in that game. Free-to-play games such as Fortnite and Rocket League no longer require a Gold subscription to play online, but paid games require Gold to play online. It's also mentioned in the game's description when it requires Gold.

The silver player doesn't need the gold player to be logged in at the same time on the gold console to play. Meanwhile the gold player can be playing on the non gold console.

Xbox One games with gold games require a gold subscription to continue playing for free. 360 games with gold games do not so you can keep playing those without gold.

Any games you actually purchase are yours to play with or without gold.
