  1. Playing video files off USB without Optional Media Update?

    Hey all.

I work at a daycare and we have an Xbox 360 that we use to play DVDs for the kids. The Xbox is not connected to the internet and can't update at all as far as media plugins and whatnot.

I have videos I'd love to bring in to show the kids. The easiest way I found to do this was to either put the video files on a USB stick or on a DVD. What format can I use? I tried mp4 but they were not readable without the update. What formats can I use
    without updating?

    :)

    windows media centre and Xbox

Try connecting to you computer in "Video Player", instead of using Mindows Media Center & see if the Video Files are detected..

Note: The Xbox 360, will not detect DVD VOB Files on a HDD & you will need to convert them into WMV or AVI..

Also, make sure, you have downloaded the "Optional Media Update" from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace..

  3. Using External Hard Drive ?

You shouldn't have any problems, if it is 1.0 or 2.0 usb it will be recognized as your HDD for media files, if its 3.0 usb and want to use just for media files music/video/pictures just don't format it with your console.

If you want to do that then your best bet would be to burn the videos to a disc.

    Slow out-of-sync 720p video playback

Hi Mister Rush. Thanks for the reply.

    -

As stated above, I even tried playing the file off a USB stick. Same problem. The file played. Audio was normal, but video in slow motion. Specs of the file (basically a 720p MP4 file with H264 video and AAC audio) are in my post above.

The problem seems to me, to be the Xbox's lack of ability to play these files in either the System Video Player from USB media, or Xbox Video via Nokia's "Play To" app. My understanding is the 720p H264+AAC shouldn't be a problem for the Xbox, so my guess
is that there's probably something about the file itself that the Xbox doesn't like.

My Nokia 700 is a Symbian Belle phone, so no option for SmartGlass. Thanks.

xbox one not able to stream video off of my Windows based pc!?

The Xbox One can do that without using Play To.

Either search the app store for the Media Player app or plug in a USB with media files on it to be prompted to download it.

Once downloaded it can 'pull' video from your Windows based PC. Never tried viewing pics with my One though.
