    I recebtly sold my PS4 and got an Xbox One S. I played Apex Legends all the time one PS4 for free without needing a subscription. Now on Xbox its saying I need Xbox Live Gold. If Microsoft want to compete with Sony then why not let players play "Free2Play"
    games for free. Sony 1 - 0 Microsoft.

    Single player games can be played without Gold. Gold is only required to play online. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare is an online only game and requires Gold.

    And yet Sony offer this service for free. They're supposed to be competitors and yet one charges and the other doesnt. Microsoft suck.

    You'll need Xbox Live to play any online multiplayer games..........even "free to play" games. Although the game may need free, what you're paying for is there online service for the Xbox. Online service is not free.
    what xbox live pays for is the xbox servers that hold your info and cheevs, and first party titles, none of that money pays the devs or publishers for their servers, third party game servers are paid for by the devs/publishers of those game, they dont get
    a dime from Micro$oft.

    Do I need Live Gold to play online? Or does Live Free work?

    You need Gold to play online in games that are paid for, but free-to-play games like Fortnite can be played without Gold. Minecraft would need Gold since it's not a free-to-play game.
