Playing on the Xbox One with friends on the Xbox 360

My friend has an Xbox 360 and I have an Xbox One. We wanted to play a game together but when I attempted to invite him to the Minecraft world, he said he was not receiving the invites. He went as far as to buy and Xbox LIVE membership to ensure the issue
was fixed but he still was not getting invited. I was wondering if it is possible to play with friends that have Xbox 360 on my Xbox One.

Xbox One shows "???" when friends play Xbox 360 games

Hi! I have a problem that affects me and all my friends. On our Xbox Ones, when other players play Xbox 360 games, we can't see what they are playing. Xbox One shows they are playing "???". On Xbox 360, I can tottally see what my friends are playing on either
Xbox One and Xbox 360. On Xbox.com I can also see what every of my friends is playing. But on Xbox One, I can only see what friends are playing on Xbox One or Windows platforms, not on the 360. Any fix on that would be appreciated! Thanks!

Xbox 360 games on xbox one

can you play xbox 360 games on your xbox one, as well as being able to go online and do all the online content with the rest of your xbox friends whilst playing an xbox 360 game on the xbox one?

You can play each other on backwards compatible games. Since Minecraft is not backwards compatible, you would not be able to play each other unless you were playing the same version.

If your friends are playing the Xbox One then they wont show up in the notification pop up.

It only counts friends playing the Xbox 360

If your friends are playing Backward Compatible Xbox 360 games on their Xbox One, you would be able to play with them, but Xbox One games do not connect with Xbox 360 games.

On Xbox One, a friend is anyone you’ve added to your friends list. Adding new friends on Xbox One doesn’t require that they send a friend request first.
When you sign in to an Xbox One console, your Xbox 360 friends will automatically appear in your friends list, as well as in your followers list. If you accept a new friend
request sent from an Xbox 360 console, you’ll see them as both a friend and a follower on Xbox One.

However, friends who’ve been added on Xbox One won’t automatically show up on your Xbox 360 list. If you plan to play with them on your Xbox 360, you’ll have to send a friend request through your Xbox 360 console. Once they accept,
you’ll see them in your friends list on both of your consoles.

If you go into the 360 game menu on the xbox one you may be able to see this.

If you're playing on the Xbox One and your account is set as Home on the console your friend can share the membership and play online.

If you're playing the 360 version then your friend will need to have his own Gold membership.

Xbox One games cannot be played with Xbox 360 versions of the game as they are incompatible.
