Playing on PC monitor with external speakers

My TV is pretty small so I wanted to play on my PC monitor instead since it's much bigger and in HD. Problem is they don't have built-in speakers, so does anyone know what I'd need to be able to play Xbox One on my PC monitor and still get sound through
the external speakers? Is there anything I'd need to buy?

    :)

To be able to play in HD on a computer monitor, you will need to be connecting over a HDMI or DVI connection, meaning your monitor must have one of those ports. The PVR (The GE version at least) only has HDMI so what you will need to do is connect the Console
to the PVR, and the PVR to the monitor via HDMI. That would provide video support. As far as audio, Microsoft came out with a "HDMI Audio video dongle adapter" with the HDMI kits, it plugs into the AV port of your Xbox and has output options of RCA and Optical.
So if your external spearkers are the 3.5mm jack, you will need a RCA to 3.5 adapter as well.

    Hope this helps,

I want to be able to play Xbox 360 on my PC montior in HD and be able to get audio from my external speakers. I also want to be able to record gameplay with my HD PVR 2. If this is possible, could someone link me to the items I need to purchase?

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do about the sound as the monitor you described has no speakers built in. I'm also not to sure there is any adapter available that can do what you need it to do. I'm very sorry, but I would say that there is no way
you can get the sound to play without any speakers built in the monitor. Playing on PC monitor with external speakers :(

I'm sure there was a way to do it with the 360 but I never figured out how.

  6. Hi ShockSand,

What you need is and "HDMI audio extractor" if you search for that on eBay or amazon you can find various types. some have optical, some phono, and some have 3.5mm jack sockets. Just be sure it has an HDMI out or pass-through.

Alternatively you can get a SPDIF to analogue converter and run it from the optical out on your console. This would be the most economical option. You'd also need to purchase an optical cable and a RCA to 3.5mm cable.

Thanks Sn1per Sk33t. I'm not really good with this kind of stuff, and when I search "HDMI audio extractor" on eBay it shows all different kinds of results and I don't know what I'm supposed to get.

    Hey ShockSand,

No worries, let me know what country you're in and I'll give you some links to all the bits you'll need. Also, just to be sure, are you using regular PC speakers?

(Sorry for the slow reply, got late and went to bed, and the forums are acting a bit weird)

and 3. An optical cable. Just do a search on amazon for one and pick a length that suits your needs.

Set-up is pretty self explanatory as the specific cables will only go in there respective sockets. On your console you'll need to go in to settings and change optical out to uncompressed stereo and you should be good to go.
