Playing new games this can't be the way it's supposed to be.

I think you might be one of those dudes, that work the video game counter at the box store,

that likes to act like everybody that doesn't know as much about video games as you is an idiot.

It's "their" in this case not "there".

I put off buying the thing till this year because I didn't want "Live".

My son is young, and I didn't/don't care for him interacting with crude or rude teenagers.

There is more to life than the latest console.

And I'm actually a customer who is not thrilled with the added complexity to having fun with my kid.

And the in game ads, W.T.H.?

I think microsoft extorts more than enough money out of this whole deal.

Icy Grey Beard, Halo MCC is originally riddled with bugs, you're probably going to have to grab the update. Single player works fine afterwards.

 

Grey Beard, From one old guy to another - Just start the d/l at night. Let it run while you sleep. That may help with any game issues plus you will not be sitting there waiting to play.

Ah can I just ask the op, what in game adds are you talking about? I've never seen any advertisement in any of my games, so I'm quite curious.

 

Strange, I agree with the so called "TROLLS". 7 + hours to download and install Storm Island for FH2. The download bit was quick, it was the install bit which took most of the time. Same with most games and yes I do disconnect my internet first. I buy a
game but can't even play it for hours because it's installing. I think I made a real mistake paying good money for the XBone. And many friends think the same way, I never had these problems with my 360, yet have had nothing but problems since buying this thing.
Many of us are unhappy since moving over and I'm seriously thinking of going back to the 360 'till the problems are sorted.

 

I remember seeing adverts in some 360 games. Burnout Paradise and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows spring to mind.

 

Once the download goes past 1% the wording changes to installing but is still downloading if you check network you will still see it downloading info

 

Need for speed games had lynx or axe adverts in and nba from ea had a addias advert at start

 

I'm guessing most people here who are complaining about install times have always been console players. Coming from a mainly pc background I never find the install too bad. I guess most are just used to the older consoles which were a lot more plug and play.

Although the 360 towards the end of its life was getting installs as well. I clearly remember buying forza 4 and battlefield 3 on the 360, and both had a second disc with texture packs I believe, and these took a while to install. As games become more complex,
they are going to become a lot larger. Install/download times are going to get longer and longer. If people can't deal with this then I suggest there is only two solutions. Stay with the 360 or, give up gaming.

 

Cheesy they are both ea games so that is down to ea. The op accused Microsoft of advertising greed.

 

Yeah was just making a point ads have been in games for a long time although I'm yet to see any in halo

It just seems to me, that graphics got good enough ten years ago. - "good enough" is a very subjective term. IMO graphics can always use improvement, right up until the point that
it looks as if you're peering through a window (a very clean window) at real life events. Better graphics (in addition to many other factors) sell new consoles and new consoles make $ for the manufacturers. I, for one, want better graphics.

For the hard to perceive improvement in graphics, - The improvement from the OG Xbox to the Xbox 360 was pretty noticeable, but the games got better and better looking as time
went on. This is early in the Xbox 1's life cycle. It may be hard to perceive the improvement in graphics now, but I wouldn't count on that being the case in a few years.

the user interface complexity is not worth it. - I'm not much of a fan of the UI myself. But it does take time and patience to get used to it.

Seems clear some degree of designed obsolescence, when the new games are only available for the new system. - Pretty much.

I started playing "Pong" in the 1970s. - I can remember the days when we didn't have consoles and had to go to the arcade to play video games.

Have enjoyed video games my whole life, but the shear pain in the *** of this system,

has finally got me asking if my gaming days are running out. - As I already said, I'm not a big fan of the UI... but it isn't all that bad. Time and technology move ever forward.
It's early enough in the X1's life that there is time for improvements to happen. Just like they did with the 360. I'm almost to the age where grandchildren are possible... and I'm not seeing my gaming days running out anytime soon. For the most part, young
or old has only as much merit as you permit it.
