Playing games off of an external hard drive

After about 6 years running off of my xbox 360 with 64gb hard drive, i have been finding it hard to play all my favorite games and still have room for downloaded ones too. And with all the dlc, and games starting to require download to play (sometimes even
up to 8gb i have seen), i need new memory. I was thinking of an external hard drive to install stuff to now(i know that it needs to be partitioned into =>32gb sections). But i want to know if it is possible to play games right from an external hard drive-the
same as a flash drive. I do not want to pay for a good one and end up not being able to play my games from it.

External hard drive problems

I was playing Xbox one evening and my console froze, so I restarted and tried playing again, most of my games were installed on my external hard drive. I tried playing every game I had on my external hard drive and none would start.

I completely reset my console and external hard drive, i installed games on my internal hard drive and they all work, but the games I installed on my external hard drive still do not work.

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.

 

Yes, it will work the same as it does with a flash drive.

 

Get an xbox 360 250gb hard drive and a transfer cord (the cord you would use to move old system to slim model)

doing that should allow you to use old 360 hard drive on a slim.

My friend did that and says he doesn't have a problem with it.

 

Using thw old model hard drives with the Slim does violate the terms of use and can put you at risk for being banned though.
