Playing for fun or to win? Which are you?

Surely the answer is both??

I play for fun first and foremost but winning makes everything more fun!!

 

I hate losing, so you would think I play to win - which I do, but if I lose a game I really don't mind. I like to learn from my mistakes, "Winning is teaching, losing is learning".

 

A little bit of both. If I'm playing a single player game I'm typically playing that game for my own personal enjoyment (Some people play anything to boost their gamerscore. I'm not that type of person.) If I'm playing a multiplayer game that is designed
for competitive team play, I will try my best to win. The sole reason I pay for Xbox Live is to see how my skills stack against other people around the world.

 

all depends on game or mode within that game.

 

Well when I was younger I played to win, now that i'm older(I like to say more mature ;-) I play for fun (only really good at racing games now ugh LOL)

Both. Nobody plays to lose although I'll ocasionally let my older brother win in Forza. I dont mind coming last as long as the people i play with are good sports. If i win and happen to notice a weakness in the strategy being used by an opponent I'll point
it out so they can improve their game as others have done the same for me. Its a good way to make friends too. The one thing I can not stand is a bad winner. You know the kind who has to throw out insults and sarcastic remarks after winning. They take the
fun out. I'm not talking about trash talk between friends but strangers who just want to be rude. So yea I play for fun and I like to win but losing is OK if you have a good time with your friends. I never cheat to win and always try to be clean and fair.
Im not perfect though and accidents happen. Sorry for writing a book here but my thoughts got away from me

While this is an interesting quote, it's not 1 I necessarily agree with. If a winner is arrogant and rubs their victory in their opponent's face, why would their opponent willingly give that victor their attention? I certainly wouldn't. As for the loser,
if they can't accept the loss as I've already explained (rage quitting, for example) or attempt to try something new/different, then they won't learn anything from the experience. They'd just quit. As long as they keep quitting, the domino affect of failure
will continue.

 

They are one and the same. No one has fun while losing. It really is that simple.

 

Like I said in my post I play forza online don't think I've ever won a race but still have a great time

Yes, because everyone always says what they feel and are telling the truth.

 

Cheesy has a point though. I've had numerous online sessions with regulars from this forum in Forza, but despite consistently losing time and time again in the races, I still had fun because of the positive social aspects of Live - that's something that
can't simply be ignored.

 

Yes it can. It's also easier for losers to make up other nonsense to deflect. No worries though, it's human nature to be ashamed of failure. We only now have the grace and luxury of failing not being equal to death. But the inside
of a human brain still feels it.
