Play Xbox through tivo

map your number keys on the remote to be specifically the directional pad of your TiVo. so when you are watching tivo through xbox one using play, ff, pause, etc will work just fine because xbox will command tivo. map the number 2 as direction up 5 as "select"
and so on. i have found it easy and natural. i put the tivo button "TiVo" on the touch screen. so i tap that then use my num pad as direction pad and select for tivo.

Well, the Xbox One has a pass-through so I imagine it goes like this: TV > Xbox One > TiVo, assuming of course the TiVo works exactly like your typical cable box.

Works fine with my TiVo. Keep in mind it's just passing through the commands to the TiVo. If you don't have it hooked to a DVR you won't have any REW/FF functionality. The Xbox One does not maintain a buffer of video content coming into the console via HDMI.

I was really shocked when I plugged in the Xbox and found that the Tivo wouldn't play with the Xbox off. There is no way my wife is going to say "Xbox on" when she wants to watch tv. Leaving the Xbox on 24/7 seems very wasteful to me and pretty dangerous
given my past experience with Xbox 360s (I went through 5 red rings).

My solution is to run my Tivo through component to the TV and HDMI to the Xbox One. Tivo will simultaneously output to both, though some cable boxes will not. This allows me to keep the Xbox TV functionality and still have it usable for my wife and others.

Hopefully this is something that can be addressed in the future. Honestly it has me contemplating getting rid of the Xbox One. I see a lot of promise, but it's really a work in progress.

Netfilx on Xbox One is dead simple to use and it loads considerably quicker than it does if I watch it through Virgin Tivo.
