Play game while updating?

Is this possible? I know you can do this on the ps4 but so far everytime I press update on a game, it forces me to exit and wait for the update to download and install which is a horrible thing to endure, especially so if it's because of a 15gb patch for
halo online when I just want to play the campaign while letting it download.

Furthermore is there anyway to see a detailed update on a game's installation? Once again on the ps4 this isn't a issue because games tend to install extremely quickly and you are able to see the update progress, as it tells you how much of the update is
done and the time remaining, it just seems to me currently that the xbox one is extremely behind the ps4 in terms of letting the user know the progress of their games.

One more thing, if it's possible to play a game while it's updating, can I remain online like on the ps4? I hate to keep bringing up the ps4, but as the xbox one's direct competitor I feel as if a comparison should be made.

The 15GB Halo Update can be downloaded while playing Campaign. Just set it downloading and load back in to game and off you go playing Campaign until the update downloads.

Some games allow you to update and play at the same time, others don't similar to the PS4. It depends what the game is updating and whether it is critical files. For example if they need to update the exe file then you probably can't play and update but
those updates are usually the smaller ones.

 

I just got my Xbox One myself. I have satellite internet so I have to pause the downloads due to having a data cap on my internet. I have the Master Chief Collection completely installed from the disk but I'm unable to finish downloading the update due to
my data cap. How exactly do I play the game now? It always won't let me start the game now from the main menu.
