    Play from HDD

    Hi All,

Simple question I'm sure but I want to install my games to Hard drive/USB key. My question is which is better, I have seen numerous reports saying USB sticks have much smoother game play from them.

However USB sticks are limited to the 32GB.

Obviously a HDD will get over the 32GB limit easy enough but am i likely to experience lag and freezes/reboots others have reported or are they the unlucky few writing those reviews.

    many thanks

    :)

juddery playback when playing from HDD

I got an update for this last night, don't know when it was released as hadn't played it for a couple of days.

    Maybe a judder fix?

If you are talking about an external hard drive then you will still be limited to only 32GB per drive regardless of how large it is.

If you have a 360S or E then I would recommend getting an official Xbox 360 hard drive. They come in 3 different sizes; 250GB, 320GB and the new 500GB size. Be sure to get them from a legitimate retailer to avoid getting a cheap knock off.

It would be better to install games to the official drive. You will save wear and tear on your disc drive and the games will run smoother.

Using a USB drive or external drive is not as good as sometimes they will just decide to quit on you and you would lose whatever was stored on it.

    Thank you,

It is the original white xbox, however I have since read that you still need to insert the disc to play these games. (Which I thought was not needed once installed). This kind of negates the need.

Issue was I work away from home so wanted to just take the hard drive or key with me not all the game discs when away my thought was therefore if game play just as good would buy a 250GB HDD (official one) have all my games on there and only need unit and
controller when I travel. But if i still need all discs this does not help me, I can continue to just install the game I am playing at the time.

Many thanks for the advise though, shame there is this need for disc as well.

It is true that you will still need to have the disc to prove ownership of the title. The disc will spin momentarily and then stop.

The only way to avoid that is to purchase a digital download of the game.

    Games not playing from HDD??

Have you moved the hard drive to a new console?

    -

For some misbegotten reason game installs are locked to the console they were done on. Move it to another console and you'll have to reinstall.

    Games not playing from HDD??

Also remember that a lot of modern games come on the new disc format which spin for longer when starting.
