Play & Charge not working?

I don't think it's the batteries because I bought a new set. I used one and after a while it was dying, so I plugged it in. nbd. My charge and play wire lights up red, but when I open the xbox guide to see the battery status, it doesn't show that it's charging.

I tried to leave the controller over night, and the light went from red to green the next day, but when I checked the battery status again, it was still at one bar. I tried another battery pack and it charged fine, so I don't know what is going on.

Question regarding controllers without rechargeable battery packs

If you don't have the charge cable from the play & charge kit, that's not possible. If you do, you don't need the chargeable pack in and can just play with the play & charge cable attached to the console if you wish.

Well if its charging other batteries just fine then its probably the battery. Did you charge it before its first use? I think the manual says to charge the packs prior to playing games wirelessly when you first buy them. If you did then I would just assume
that the battery is defective.

Not all batteries are rechargeable by the consumer. If you bought a set of AA batteries, make sure they are rechargeable ones. If it is a battery back made for use with the plug & play unit, it is probably a defective battary like RyKros1987 said.

So you mention that the controller works with the USB cable attached. Which means the cable is working.

Have you tried different battery packs as well? Maybe the battery pack is faulty and can't be charged anymore?

I've tried 3 battery packs in total, my old one and 2 new ones. Also tried different Xbox cables as well as different manufacturer cables.

After fiddling around plugging the cable into different USB connections, the light will come on for not even a second before going off and staying off - light shows as orange also.

I can't see the issue being with my controller since it's brand new.

It's probably a problem with those battery power poles, as the control works with other options.

Also sometimes it might indicate that its not charging but charge anyways

it's the Xbox one so it uses the controller micro usb port. I've left it on charge for a while and hasn't increased the charge so it's definitely not charging.

I'm just going to go to a shop tomorrow and get both the controller and battery tested and see what the issue is.

Hey chvrliex,

That is a bummer for sure. There are a couple of things you could try. First would be to take the USB cord and charge and play kit and hook it up to your computer to see if that would charge it (or a phone charger). The second thing I would do is try
it on another XBox (either a friend or see if Gamestop or Best Buy would let you try it there to see if it recognizes and starts charging). That is really odd that you are having this problem and I hope you are able to find an answer for it.
