Standard AA (LR6) batteries work in your Xbox One Wireless Controller, as do rechargeable AA (LR6) batteries. Note that
regular rechargeable batteries don’t charge in the controller. Recharge these batteries by the method recommended by the manufacturer.

Batteries in the Xbox One controller are meant to be replaceable, normally with AA-batteries.

Are you using disposable or rechargeable batteries?

Xbox Play and Charge Kit, and the battery pack isn't able to hold a charge anymore, you'll just need to replace it.

Buy a Play and Charge kit. The quality of the batteries is a lot better than any other rechargeable ones. It also fits perfectly in your controller. When I used rechargeable batteries, every time I shook my controller, it felt like there was something loose
in it. Not with the Play and Charge Kit. I can play for two weeks without recharging batteries.

The battery pack that comes with the Play and Charge Kit can be recharged using virtually any Micro-USB, like the one that came with the Play and Charge Kit itself.

If you take away the rechargeable battery, the controller will be powered simply using the USB connection to your Xbox. It becomes a wired controller but it will stay powered as long as you have it plugged into your Xbox. Once you unplug it, the controller
will power off.

There is nothing to charge if you remove the rechargeable battery pack. The battery pack is what is being re-charged when plugged in and not the controller itself.
