Play and Charge Kit Question Regarding new console

To use your Xbox One Play & Charge Kit, insert the kit's battery pack into your wireless controller, and charge it using the charge cable included in the kit.

I have the new xbox slim. I thought the play and charge kit charges if the console is turned off any way just like the white consoles use to work? no?

The play and charge kits are a joke.

Mine is exactly like the OP says.

I even bought a new play and charge kit with new battery and new controller thinking my previous kit was faulty and that's just the same.

I now just use one of the fast chargers.
