Physical Disc vs. Digital Download

So what are the perks of having the digital download? Just to get the patch downloaded prior to the release? Or is there some other benefits to downloading the game rather than having a physical copy of the disc. I have been out of gaming for a year or so
now and just don't really get the whole digital download idea. (I am buying an Xbox One this weekend solely for this game...well...and some other games too)

If Microsoft wants me to convert to digital downloads and NOT BUY A PHYSICAL DISC...they need to make digital downloads cheaper than disc!!!!!

$45.00 for digital vs $60.00 for disc.....THEN IM GOING DIGITAL ,......

Digital Download vs physical disc pricing.......

Loving the fact that games are going straight to digital download via the marketplace on launch day or shortly after. However, I cannot believe that MS can justify the pricing. for example: Diablo 3 on launch day on disc was £40 - £45 (depending on the store)
but on the xbox store it is priced at just under £50. COD: Ghosts, again can be bought on disc for £40 but agin is nearly £50 in xbox store.

How can this be? Digital Content for download does not have any of the overhead costs that disc formats have. Look at PC games, the digital versions are always cheaper than the disc based games.

I would happily purchase the digital downloads but not until the pricing either matches the cost of the physical disc or is slightly cheaper.

Can anyone shed some light on why the xbox store prices are set higher than the suggested retail pricing for the physical discs??

 

That's pretty much the only advantage. It also means you can have a game in your disc drive so you can play 2 different games at the click of a button

 

AHHH! That makes sense too.

 

Multiple games mostly. Instead having to swap disk everything is loaded in your hard drive waiting for you.

 

and if you preorder on the xbox store you can PRE-install the game files ready for the release time e.g 1 min past to play the game

 

Yup while everyone is out picking their copy at 12 I'll already be playing by 11pm. Keep in mind they still have to install it as well as do the patch.

 

I buy discs. you can trade the game in and get some cash for it if you want!

 

Physical Copy: @ 12:01am on release day, you will likely still be standing in line at the game store waiting for your copy. Unless, of course, you were lucky enough to be first in line, in which case, you may be back to your car by then. Then drive home,
open up the game, put in the disc and start the install process while waiting (probably impatiently lol) for it to install enough that you can start playing SP... the 15GB update for MP will still have to DL in the background.

Digital Copy: @ 12:01am on release day, I will go to the game icon in my games and select the game to launch it. The MP update has already DLed. Not really that big of a deal to me since I'll be playing SP first anyway.

 

own more than one XboxOne and have good internet data cap, then go digital..not gonna go into more detail...use the search

 

As stated by others, you won't have to be waiting in line until midnight on release. Instead, you'll be sitting in your chair, watching that clock on the home screen, just waiting to push A to start playing.

Also, you won't have a disc to worry about. (misplacing it, scratching it, damaging it in any way)
