Phantom downloading error

So for months now I've been coming on to find my Xbone randomly downloading what ever content it feels like. It'll go on ahead and download random demos and traielrs for what ever the hell it feels like and even once tried to download a pinball game. I have
contacted customer service each time this problem occurs and never get an actually useful answer. So far I have not been charged for anything and have fortunately, not been charged for today's incident.

Today I came on to find my expensive KI delivery machine was downloading the season pass for the latest installment of that infamous Call of Duty series. An item I haven't even looked at on the marketplace, for a game I haven't even looked at (nor do I care
to play). An item that is £34.99.... I am the only person in the house that knows how to set up and use the xbox and am the only one who uses it. So naturally, finding this item appear caused a great amount of panic. Fortunately after half an hour of trying
to get to the root of the problem with customer service, I found that I had not been charged... and that this item was not even in my account.

Now let me re-stress this point, this problem has been going on for MONTHS! I have only came to trurringculy worry about it now since randomly having £35 worth of content appear on your console out of nowhere (even if it is awful content) is pretty *** scary!
I can't even begin to understand how such a god awful error can keep on occuring, but I need to know why it is occurring and fix it before I end up getting in trouble or something for Microsoft randomly forcing expensive content onto my console without my
permission or without me paying! Please, if there is anyone out there who knows what is happening and can help me out, I implore you to do so before Bill Gates or MajorNelson kick my door down.

I just had the same problem downloading metal gear v the phantom pain. Were you able to get the problem fixed? I would appreciate any help.

 

Hi there.

A couple things could be in play here. In both cases it sounds like someone else has your console as their Home Xbox, so their purchases get auto-downloaded to your console.

Did you buy your console new or used? If used, it sounds like the previous owner has got a new console and is buying content without having made their new console their Home Xbox, thus their purchases get downloaded to yours too - their Home.

Has a friend or someone else ever played with their own profile on your console? Same scenario as before, they possibly now own their own console and yours is still their Home, so purchases are downloaded automatically by yours.

In both cases, only they get charged. In both cases, it is impossible to find out *who* purchased the content and therefore downloaded it to your console, you would need to know whose account it is likely to be and tell them to make their own console their
Home Xbox.

 

Yeah it's second hand. That's daft though that it automatically downloads it just cause they bought it elsewhere... Though I guess at the end of the day, I'm getting free stuff and I won't get in trouble for it (it seems and I hope) since I can't do anything
to fix it... Come on previous owner, get into Killer Instinct! I ain't bought the second season yet XD

 

That would seem to be the case.

Just remember that if the other person whose purchases are being downloaded to your console actually eventually changes his Home Xbox, the games would become unplayable on your console and you'll be asked to pay for the games (or insert a disc) to continue
playing them.

The irony is that because yours is the Home Xbox, the games will work offline for you and for any other profile on your console, whereas for the other party they need to maintain an active Xbox Live connection and be signed in as themself for it to work.
Until, that is, they realise the issue and change their Home Xbox to their own.
