PC Xbox & Companion no party chat audio

So I own the 14" Razer Blade with the AMD CPU in it, if that's pertinent or not idk. But I have recently downloaded the Xbox app and realized that my friends can hear me just fine but I cannot hear them at all. I've already tried switching the input and output setting in both the app itself and in the windows "sounds" default settings. As mentioned in title, the companion app also does not work. But Steam works perfectly fine??

I have a theory that either Realtek or my Razer has a software compatibility issue with the Xbox apps. Because when I plug in USB headsets to my laptop everything works perfectly well. But when I use my built-in laptop speakers or my wired aux headphones, no sound, and those both are Realtek.

This issue is extremely annoying as being able to use the Xbox Game Bar would allow me to chat with friends that are playing on their consoles.

the double audio im hearing is coming from the companion app on my pc that im using to stream from my xbox. its not from streamlabs. im getting the audio from my xbox and my pc via the companion app. but im using the companion app to use party chat to
talk. so i cannot mute it because it then mutes the party chat audio and im not able to hear my party.

Okay wow so the suggested advice wasn't exact. But you pointed me in the right direction! For some reason the "Audio Enhancement" setting under the Advanced tab in Sound settings was causing the issue. I just unchecked that box, making sure it was off, then applied it and voila, worked perfectly.

Though honestly I do wish I knew why this would cause the issue with only the Xbox Apps though? And I'm not entirely sure what this setting really does either.

Sorry to hear you are having party audio issues with your PC. Here are some troubleshooting tips that hopefully help. Before you attempt these steps, make sure your PC is completely up to date by going to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

In the game bar (Win+G) and in your party, click the 3 dots (...) and go to Party Audio. Then click Audio Settings change your audio output to different outputs. For your party to hear you, make sure you change your audio input as well to the Laptop's default mic.

Note: If you're going to use your Laptop's speaker, your party may end up hearing themselves as an echo, since it is a speaker. Using either a Bluetooth or wired headset is preferred for optimal use for both sides.

Try different audio formats for party chat

Windows PC audio devices support a wide range of audio formats. Sometimes, incompatibilities with drivers or the audio software on Windows can affect audio playback or recording.

To try different formats, follow these steps:

Select the Start button and in the Search box enter control panel.
Select Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. (You may see Devices and Printers, depending on what updates you’ve taken to your PC.)
Right-click the default device (it’ll be checked), select Properties, and then select the Advanced tab.
In Default Format, select the drop-down box to change the audio format. Once you’ve changed the format, check the playback by selecting Test.
When you’re done, select OK.

Repeat these steps for each format and audio device to find the one that’s best suited for your setup.

Install the Xbox Companion app if you haven't installed it on your PC. Then open the Xbox app and see if you can create a chat party there.
