PC won't recognize Xbox One Controller anymore

I'm sorry that didn't work. While a repair install can usually fix these issues, the last option would be a clean install of Windows 10.

Just before you do this:

• Verify that all of your USB ports are working. Usually plugging in a flash drive and having the drive detected should be enough.
• Back up all of your documents stored on the C:\ drive to either another drive on your PC or external storage.
• Find your Windows 10 Key.

If you took advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 that Microsoft offered during its early days or bought a digital version of the OS from the Microsoft store, then you’ll have what’s called a Digital Licence (or Digital Entitlement) rather than a physical
one.

This means that the Product Key is linked to your Microsoft account, rather than kept on a sticker attached to the bottom of the PC. If so, you can skip the instructions in how to find your Windows 10 key.

So, should you find yourself stuck at the ‘It’s time to enter the Product Key’ stage of the installation process, simply click on the ‘Do this later’ option in the lower left corner of the screen and finish the process by logging into your Microsoft account.

• Run the Media Creation tool again.
  
  On the What do you want to do page, select: Create Installation media (USB, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC

By far the easiest way to install Windows fresh is via a USB flash Drive. Note: You'll need to access your PC BIOS and change your boot order to have the PC read the Flash drive during boot to start the Windows installation.

Or, if you're old school and have a DVD writer, you can burn your installation media using the Creation tool. However, you will still likely need to change the boot order here too, but in this case the first boot device would be your DVD drive.

This online guide will help you complete a fresh Windows install if you've not done this before.

I have just finished completing the clean installation....... and still nothing. I plugged it in, and just that one vibration and that's it. It still doesn't appear in the Device Manager.

I am not sure what to do anymore? I would like to think that it is just an update problem, and that maybe eventually there will be an update that will make it work again as it did 2 months ago when I last used it.

I don't know if there are more options, I hope there are because I was really hoping this wouldn't happen, I updated my computer so I guess it isn't necessarily a bad thing to do a clean install in order to clean and format the new PC, but still.

I was going to suggest another usb cord but I read and it looks like you tried that. You said the controller works on other devices/computers but have you yet tried to use ANOTHER controller on that device? That would at least definitively isolate the
issue being software related for sure and not the controller somehow in relation to your computer.

In doing this you will see if it's ALL controllers when connected to your device or just that one in particular which would lead me to believe it's something still to do with the controller -EVEN IF that controller still works on other devices.

Have you also gone to device/accessory manager on the pc and does your pc need any updates? (I know this is limited if any help) I hope you figure it out soon!

in windows 10 should automatically reconemite it. if you don't look at device manager to see if you have any unknown devices and associate it with xbox command

Yes! I have been reading this thread because I have been having the same issue. Tried all the USB ports, multiple cables, and two different controllers. Then, I read the "not all USB cables are created equal" part. I realized that I had tried two identical
USB cable, so I dug around for a completely different one, plugged it in, and BAM! Worked like a charm! Thank you so much, I probably lost 10 years of life expectancy over this.
