Pc not reclaiming storage space after uninstalling games from xbox app

To make a long story short...

I had 860gb when I downloaded the game. I have now played it and uninstalled the game from the xbox app. However I now only have 820gb. I have not done anything else with the computer since downloading, playing and uninstalling. Where did the other 40gb go?

In Windows 11, I used the Xbox app to download the game through Gamepass. The game was about 127gb and I downloaded it with 860gb free space on to my C: drive. I had the game for a few days, and haven't used the computer for anything else since. No downloads, no photos, videos or anything else saved, I only played the game over the course of a few days. Now I have finished the game and uninstalled it from within the Xbox app. But my C: is only showing to have 820gb available. I have run Storage Sense under settings, removed temporary files.

I have seen other post like this one that direct people to C:/ProgramFiles/WindowsApps but I don't know which would be left over game data. There are files for Mircosoft.Xbox.TCUI..... , or Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay..... , Microsoft.GamingApp.... , Microsoft.GamingServices.... .

Other post have also pointed to C:/Users/Username/AppData/Local/Packages which have similar looking files in it as well.

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it, as it seems like every time download and remove a game I'm going to continuously lose space on the drive which obviously sucks. Thank You.

I uninstalled some games from my Xbox game pass (PC) using the uninstall option in the Xbox app (on PC).

But the storage space in my SSD did not return to what it used to be, before the game was installed.

We're talking about upwards of 10Gb. It can't be other files because the drive was solely for games.

Anyone can help?

Hi

It is possible you may have some legacy DLC download content left over from games that you may have uninstalled from your external hard drive that is no longer visible on the console.

If this is the case then you will need to wait for a few weeks for the new dashboard to be released and you will then be given the option in the storage section of setting to reclaim this space.

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your console's storage.

To clarify, have you also taken into account storage space occupied by apps?
You can see all the apps installed on your console's internal storage by going to My Games and Apps > Apps > Filter > Storage device > Internal storage.

Have you recently experienced any installation issues with a game? or an error message letting you know a game was corrupted perhaps? Although rare, sometimes a game will still take storage space even after uninstalling it.

HERE IS A WORKING SOLUTION TO Metro Exodus crashing in XBOX Game pass for PC. This worked for me 100% each time the game crashed, and after trying to uninstall it I got stuck with unplayable game, unremovable game files. I went through points 1-5. I managed
to beat the game after several crashes and remove it recovering 60 GB disk space

.

So if anyone has issues with Metro Exodus crashing on PC/XBOX GAME PASS and is unable to sucessfully uninstall the game and free the disk space do this:

Uninstall XBOX Game Pass for PC APP
go to your Windows 10 Update Menu and Press Update
restart Windows
Install Xbox game pass App again
Open Xbox game pass App and Press Install Metro Exodus (it will not take long because the game is already there, just a tiny part of it will be brought back).

This way the game should be playable again or , if you wish you may NOW finally unistall it and free your disk space.

This will not stop the ME from crashing but will make it playable und uninstallable

The tricky part is that when the game crashes and we want to uninstall it, some part of the Windows update is removed with it but not the game so the disk space cannot be freed nor game started untill you do the points 1-5 and get your Windows updated again.

This problem has been known for a few weeks now but no patch from XBOX so far.
