    PC not detecting xbox controller after Windows 11 upgrade


    Hi all,

    After I upgraded to Windows 11, my computer doesn't detect my xbox controller any more. It worked before on Windows 10. It is a xbox one s original controller.

    When I connect my controller to my computer with a usb to micro-usb cable, the controller vibrates. Then when I press the xbox button it starts to flash. Then nothing more happens. I've also tried to press the connect button but it doesn't work either. I have also run the xbox accessories app but it can't detect my controller. When I search for the problem I don't really find anything that solves the problem. I have updated the usb drivers, updated to the latest version of Windows, reinstalled the chipset drivers, tried different cables, rebooting my computer, and updated my controller.

    Any help would be great!

    Computer: H310 Gaming Codex 3 (MS-B913)

    cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz

    gpu: Rtx 2060

    ram: 8 Gb

    Thank you for posting on the Xbox Communities Forum. Please note that Windows 7 does not have full support for Xbox One controllers. As such, some features such as the Xbox button will not work. Windows 10/11 have built-in support for Xbox One controllers.

    Windows 7 is no longer receiving support or updates, making your PC vulnerable to attacks. If your PC is connected to the internet, Windows 7 is not safe to use. I strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 10 or 11.

    For now, you can try updating a SATA driver. We understand your experience on this, as it turns out. As we isolated this issue. The controller is working on your old build on your device rather than the upgraded one and it started from there.

    As we have known, Xbox 360 controllers are already outdated and is not available on the market anymore and any updates on the controller specifically Xbox 360 controller is unable to be updated anymore.

    Since it is working on your old setup, the best options that we can recommend for today is that the only thing that we can do right now is to use your controller on your Windows 11 device that is being detected and the old setup. Because the upgraded motherboard did not connect. Thus, there is what we called COMPATIBILITY ISSUES. And since your motherboard is upgraded, your Xbox 360 is not anymore updated and that is the reason why perhaps this is happening.

    The only way we can use that controller of yours is to attach it on the Windows 11 device that you have used and had been detected and on your old PC setup.

    I've updated the driver and used this controller on other PCs with windows 11 and the problem still persists.

    If your controller isn't working on other PC running Windows 11 it tells me something is wrong with your controller.

    There aren't any compatibility issues with older Xbox 360 controllers and Windows 11. I've just tried my old Xbox 360 wired controller in my brand new Windows 11 based PC and it works fine. The fact that it isn't working now is likely coincidental.
