So I finally made a character that I thought I would like; A High Elf Sorcerer. Here's what I have noticed is that in contrast to the other classes, which I have tested, it seems using any type of staff is counter intuitive when you consider how much magicka
the sorcerer burns through. So the bow is optimal if you want to kill your target at a distance and burn though the stamina instead wasting precious magicka. - Conclusion, the sorcerer makes a good hunter with the summoned familiar. It does not hold much aggro
but it will however keep one target busy while you pummel another with arrows. The summoned familiar does fail quite often, sometimes he'll just hang back and take a smoke break while you take care of the mob.

Actually, I find the bow to be the most effective weapon...especially early on. Using anything else always seemed to put me at risk of dying; making most fights seem like boss fights while using a spell cast/bow combo I had no trouble even when I was caught
off guard...I simply had to adjust my position by moving back in contrast to holding my position and fighting my way out or retreating in hope that enough magicka regenerated for to cast a hail Mary. - My conclusion is that the bow is overpowered...it even
has a passive that increases the damage the further away you are away from a target...therefore it's great when you want to finish off the target your summoned familiar was keeping busy.

The best armor in my opinion is heavy armor, regardless of the class you pick. Considering the fact that we only get 5 slots, chances are you're not going to waste a slot on an armor's active spell. Each armor type does have one or two valuable passives
but considering the fact that you have to be prepared for both physical and spell attacks, heavy armor provides both; light armor provides more spell resistant passives but lacks in the actual armor resistance; while it may provide magicka regen/max benefits,
I find that I'm burning too much magicka to rely on magicka alone. Which is why I like burn stamina and magicka laterally leaving any magicka regen/max effects somewhat pointless because it's not enough considering most of my fights are physical - Conclusion,
when I'm facing spell casters, I simply dodge what you can/block what you can't and pummel them with arrows...spells aren't even necessary. When there is a caster/melee combo, just have the familiar keep the caster busy.

I'm not at all married to any of these conclusions, could just be my play style. I would like to know of others considering that I would like to play with some variety.

  2. My Bosmer Nightblade is doing okay right now with a bow. If I can sneak it's even better since I can unleash a poison arrow and get a sneak bonus (at least I'm suppose to though it doesn't say), then I hit them with siphon which gives me back some health,
then invisible which will hide me long enough to get off another arrow. All that usually does for the bad guy if I can get them separated so I'm only dealing with one at a time. My sorceress uses a flame staff and relies on the knockback to keep them at bay.
Of course, freezing the baddie solid is also a hoot. I just alternate magic and heath when I have attributes to divvy up.

After glossing over the patch notes, seems A LOT of bonus' were not applied; so I have to recant a some of my conclusions in the previous post.

I'm still on the fence regarding armor, light may be viable considering all of the actual BONUS' are applied!!!

I'm a fan of the lighting staff (for looks) & the bow (for effectiveness) for my Templar but I would like to use a 2hand weapon because when I'm using my staff, I find that I'm burning though my mana, I'm limited to what I can do - a Templar without mana
is in "The Danger Zone"...which is why I like the bow because I can burn some stamina while my mana is regen. A 2hand weapon seems like it would come in handy when a target gets up close.

We'll see what the patch fixes (or breaks).

The staffs come in different appearances depending on what style they are. I like the crescent moon staffs the Khajit make but I don't have any Moonstone so I can't get my Khajit crafter to make me an inferno staff. In fact with out the motifs for making
other styles I will have to let each race make their own stuff. I did get some more bone last night and have a good bit of adamantite for Bosmer and Altmer crafting. I even got something for Imperial but I can't make an imperial.

So I finally found my play style. One thing that I had to understand was that the flexibility the game provides one really does have to find their play style. Unlike WOW where you were essentially the role your class was known for; you had to be equipped
with the appropriate gear and skills had to be spent in the right tree...with this game you can really mix it which made it confusing for me because I've become used to making a character to fit the mold that I wanted.

Now the debacle that I'm dealing with is whether I should make another character...or reset my skill points.

  6. I, too, am beginning to feel like I'm getting my footing with my two main characters. I still have a lot to figure out though. Going through the beginning can get old but I usually prefer to just start from scratch.

In Skyrim, I did tend to keep a save on an abandoned character that I liked at about level 5 before too many perks were spent but after the whole Riverwood sequence. I did that with the first character I built that I really liked but then messed up by putting
perks as I would had I still been in

Oblivion. I abandoned her at level 24 but saved her level 5 self. I later picked her up to do Hearthfire and Dragonborn. By then I knew what I was doing.

I expect to just keep working with what I have and figuring out stuff but I may not transfer more than my Bosmer Nightblade. I like her name and looks and don't want to lose her. If I don't go too far and don't redo Khenarthi's Roost it will be new again
by Christmas and ready for me to do it right. I haven't been into any other alliance since Beta.

Having, finally, reached level 15 on what now will be my main character; I find that I really don't know what would make a good secondary weapon choice. I'm a high elf Templar with the AD using a restoration staff as my primary. I'm debating between a Destructive
(Inferno) staff or bow as my secondary - heavy attacks for the flame staff produce the most DPS in the game it's slow and generally ineffective against enemies heavy swing attacks as it interrupts my attack & knocks me on my butt. The bow seemed like it would
also be a good choice but it seemed to just as effective as my restoration staff.

For now, I'm using a Destructive lighting staff which has been effective...if anyone knows of a wiki or site that has the base damage & speed of each weapon attack (not spells) , that would be wonderful if you could share.

The destructive staff with Destructive Reach (I think) has a good serious knockback with a fire staff. It keeps bad guys off my mage so i can keep hitting them. If they can't reach you, they can't hurt you. I haven't gotten into resto staff yet though I
finally got a good one so I can see what it can do. I have an Altmer mage and a Bosmer Nightblade both wielding the expected weapons. I was considering dual blades as a second choice for the Bosmer but i suck so bad at close combat in battle systems like this
one that I am reluctant to even try. I have an Altmer Nightblade I made mostly as a mule but I may try her with dual daggers. She looks like she ought to be using dual daggers. I sneak a lot and finally managed to get close enough to use the sneak attack skill.
I'm still mostly floundering around trying to figure it all out.

Considering how my points are currently spent, the best choice for my secondary weapon is...another restoration staff!!! I'm not thrilled with that conclusion, but I tend to be a bit of an elitist when it comes to maximizing the effectiveness of my abilities
and current play style. Destructive Reach will be a possible choice for when I go End game PVE/PVP because that's more single target focus. As I level, I primarily find that group DPS/crowd control and survivability are paramount for a squishy cloth wearing
healer. However, so is kiting down the enemy quickly but Templar's don't have high DPS ratings.

  10. Broken game is broken.....and now unplayable. Wasted many hoursinto my build and with a patch or two my time has been wasted. DO NOT GET IT. You will be very upset after 2 months and 90 dollars spent.

  11. It's a good game but it needs time to be completed. There are some issues but month by month a lot is getting fixed and better.

Just don't go into this thinking. I'm a healer or tank dps. Etc.

the game until level 50 and IMO even beyond that benefits from having a main focus and another to balance out your class. Just don't approach it like wow or DAoC, or any other popular MMO.

It's designed as a single player game that benefits from group play and work assists play. It's not a dungeon grinder as far as leveling to 50.

It seems it will work best on console based on how ppl tend to play vs PC

Also voice chat would be HUGE if it were on oc but it's not so I think the consoles will benefit from this 1 year + PC paid beta period.

Smurf said it best, think of ESO as a PC paid beta which is intended for multiple platforms. I've created 5 different toons just trying to get a feel for the game and each day I learn something new. I was frustrated a little at first because I was expecting
Elder Scrolls content & concepts with WoW mechanics.
