PC/Mac users town hall - Is ESO noteworthy?

I felt it would be apropos to create a topic for PC/Mac users to discuss our opinion of ESO thus far.

ESO Plus - No Discount for Multiple Month Purchase - Why?

I'd like to know why Microsoft does not allow users to purchase an ESO Plus Membership on anything BUT a month to month membership? PS4 and PC/Mac both offer month to month AND discounts if you do a 3 month subscription or 6 month subscription.

 

Looking for PvP focused Daggerfall group.

are yall starting a new character when ESO becomes available or are yall transfering a player for pc or mac

 

In my humble opinion it is not...at least not at the moment. Lol, how many patches will it take?

 

They are pushing another patch as we speak and have been regularly patching the game since release so it won't take them long to get on top of the remaining small bugs that are still in the game. For a game that is as big as ESO and considering the fact
that's it is Zenimax Online Studios first mmo I think it is definitely noteworthy.

I have seen bigger named companies have a lot worse mmo launches then Zenimax. You have to take into account that they also had to keep consoles in mind when developing the game as well which is new to mmos. Even though it is apparent now that consoles specs
were not properly understood or taken into account now.

 

It's something to consider since it is their first MMO, but the fans of the series should also be considered. ESO is definitely unique title which could be the reason so many have alienated it from launch because it is something players may not be used too
(at least I'm not having played WoW & SWTOR) - on top of the game being riddled with bugs and the unconventional group/quest mechanics, the game has quite a learning curve.

We all want to see this game succeed, but it's like seeing a brand new car getting wrecked coming off the lot.

 

I just started my first character in the Aldmeri Domion on an old Mac. I have experienced no lag or other problems at all even though my system is borderline. I immediately went back to the starter island where things are a lot calmer than they were during
the beta. There wasn't much activity in the chat but I wasn't reading it anyway. I am enjoying it so far though I am not an MMO player or a computer gamer. The only real problem I have is movement. It is slightly different from the movement in Diablo III and
I keep drawing my weapon but that's just me. It's Elder Scrolls enough for me until there is a new single player game. I'm still looking forward to the console version though since I still don't like gaming on my computer.

 

Zenimax definitely seem to be catering to the experienced mmo crowd with this title as the difficulty is quite high for an mmo. I'm both a mmo player and a ES fan so that's probably why I have taken a liking to it. They just want to hope the experienced
mmo players actually give it the time of day with this gamble though which is why I think they are rushing to get Craglorn out. A gamble that will pay off? Will have to wait and see.

 

Tell me about the difficulty! High, you say? Is that why the first skeleton I met in the prison escape killed me 3 times before I finally managed to outlast it? 3 times! And you can't leave that room until it is a heap of bones. I was ready to go back and
exchange my staff for a big something to whack it with. I am actually a big fearful of close encounters since the forum folk keep going on about learning to interrupt and block and I do that about a well as I swing a sword. That's why I do ranged damage! Give
me a break!

 

They definitely could tone it down abit. I joined a guild with some hardcore mmo players but have since left because it didn't suit me. A lot of Craglorn is probably out of the question now unless I find another guild I like. Personally I would of liked
them to make the game more like Elder Scrolls and focused more on console development but I think their hands are tied trying to cater to a different crowd.

I just saw the number of resurrections they will allow in Trials. Do you really expect it to be that difficult for some people along with the 1.5 hour maximum estimate? - SconeOfDoom

Yes. We expect people will die quite often in Trials.

 

It's good know that others have found the difficulty of the game quite challenging. What I learned is that I need to plan out each attack to survive, but sometimes charging in seems more exciting. What doesn't help is the keyboard layout. I made a Nightblade
last night and I often found myself moving back (s), side-to-side (a,d) and trying to cast a spell (1-5)...needless to say I'm probably going to develop carpal tunnel syndrome unless I get a gaming mouse. Any suggestions/alternatives to movement, aiming, and
casting?

 

I wonder how they are going to pull off the controller configuration on the console...

 

Playing with a keyboard and mouse is the most annoying thing with PC gaming for me. The only thing that has helped me is I have a really nice gaming keyboard now with very responsive keys. A gaming mouse is also good but I worry more about my keyboard then
anything.

Some players are actually using a mod to play ESO on PC with a controller apparently though
www.nexusmods.com/.../20 I have also played around with my keybinds to make them more suitable as well.

 

I saw a few mods out there, but there are too many actions to configure (in my opinion). I'm really curious to see what solution they come up with for the console. Might be on the list of reasons for why they delayed the console release...it would be mildly
hilarious if they just mothballed the whole project.
