PC gamer new to xbox one with controller questions

I have been playing PC games for a very long time but got an xbox one for the holidays and connected it up to a new 4K TV and just can't stop. Being a PC gamer I find the controller for the xbox cumbersome and confusing at times. I have played some of
the Assassins Creed with some difficulty controlling the character. I did meet a lot of walls face to face though. I also started playing halo from the beginning since I have always wanted to play it but never had an xbox. I find controlling the character
and vehicles quite challenging and aiming even more so. I was wondering if someone has some pointers or suggestions to help ease my transition to the controller. I was also wondering if there was another controller available that is similar to a TV remote
to make viewing things like DVD's easier. I know Playstation has one. Is there a document anywhere that shows what buttons do what on the controller for viewing DVD's and such? That would be helpful. Thanks

    :)

Accessory compatibility with new Wireless Bluetooth Controller on Windows 10

I recently bought the new Xbox One Wireless Controller that supports Bluetooth so that I can play PC games more comfortably, and though the controller itself works with no issues, accessories for it seem to be finicky. Upon first paring the controller to
my PC, the microphone support on the controller worked fine, I could hear my games and chat with the headphones plugged into my controller, but it only worked the one time. I've tried uninstalling my drivers and re-paring the controller a dozen times to no
avail. This also brings up the question, what other Xbox One Controller Accessories are compatible with Windows 10? It would be quite convenient to be able to connect an Xbox One Chatpad to my controller and use it just as I would the keyboard
connected to my PC. Any feedback would be wildly appreciated. My PC has the newest Bluetooth and Xbox One Controller drivers, as well is up to date with the most current version of Windows 10.

well, to answer your question, voteDC, most pc games use the keyboard as well as a controller, and i'm not a big fan of that. [/quote]

That's not strictly true. Most PC games that have controller support will work with the controller only if you so wish, especially if the game fully supports the Xbox 360 controller. Quite a few of EA's racing games support the Xbox 360 controller. I've
been playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit with my Xbox 360 controller, no need to use the keyboard and mouse with that game at all.

Other PC games I've been playing recently with full Xbox 360 controller support include:

    Fallout 3

    Fallout New Vegas

    Mafia II

    Tomb Raider Anniversary

    GTA IV

    Resident Evil 5

    Bioshock

    Test Drive Unlimited II

I've only just started to play PC games again after I built a new gaming PC last week. Those are just the games I've played with an Xbox 360 pad so far, there are loads more.

Don't feel to bad about the halo 1 controls they are kind of awkward compared to the later halos. Practice and you will get there, maybe inverting the look Up/down stick may help.

As to the remote there is an official remote for the Xbox or if you have a smartphone, you can download the Smartglass app and use the remote features in that to control DVD playback and volume.

  5. I would say Halo is the perfect game to learn FPS controller gaming. I had played a bunch of console FPS games prior to Halo and it nailed the FPS controller layout. Assassins Creed has always had a learning curve to character control especially Unity. Once
you learn what the character will do dependent on the environment it becomes fairly intuitive. I found in Unity once you have an objective marked and your not in a mission press the I think the right thumbstick in and remove the HUD completely. Instead of
scanning the mini map just looking at the environment for shortcuts is much easier and the game feels more immersive.

As Rippen said it's all about practice.

I came from PC shooters to the 360 and couldn't hit anything, my sights were all over the place. I lowered the sensitivity settings and that helped considerably getting me to slow down and not be quite so jerky although you will die a lot. You'll get the
hang of it and then start raising the setting to a comfortable level.

Wait till you have been playing shooters on the console and try going back to the PC now that's a nightmare. The controller spoils you.

you get used to it... the pressure on how far to push pull or twitch the sticks.. some tap.. some push..

I think a good style of game to get used to the "feel" would be a racing game, like FH2,, you get used to how far you need to control the sticks to control the action

Thanks to all that replied to this with some great advice. I did not know there was a sensitivity adjustment for the controller but I will certainly look into it. I'm on the third act (or whatever it's called) in Halo CE. the one where you get the sniper
rifle. It would certainly be helpful if you could zoom in with the sniper scope but so far the only thing I have found is the double box button removing the scenery and making the target even harder to see. I'm all over the place when I aim and trying not
to get so frustrated I shelve the whole thing for a while. Oh and thanks for directing me to the media remote, it's just what I'm looking for.

One more question for now. How do I exit the game and get back to the home screen. Thanks

  9. A few of my buddies are hardcore PC shooter fans, and they always used to mock console gamers. Then after playing a few shooters on 360, they ended up buying 360 controllers for their PC games. Just stick with it, soon it will seem quite natural.

I haven't played a Halo game in forever, but I think you click the right stick down to zoom ... ? You might check some of the strategy guides or wikis out there for more help.

To exit the game, just tap the big silver X button on the controller (I think they used to call it the Guide Button) and you will exit tot he home screen.
