PC crashes when running programs or games

Up until recently, my pc video games ran fine for about the past year and a half but now it crashes when i run a game or exit a game. Admittedly, I have downloaded mods for games but they're from reputable sites. The desktop runs fine, and I can use the computer. However, when I try to run any type of program or game there is a crash. I I have installed the latest drivers, updated windows, reduced the number of background programs, I've cleaned the interior of the pc, ran a memory check and a system file check. I've ran system scanners and they've reported infected files, but I can't keep the program running long enough to get a report. Is there any other course of action I can take before i have to buy a new gpu? . Any help would be much appreciated.

I chose to try option B and so far, games will work, and they won't crash but programs still won't run, and they crash spontaneously.

Please tell me:
Are you using windows 10 or 11?
Do you know if your windows system or any hardware component received an update recently?
Or when this started to happen?
If you maybe have your graphics card overclocked, did you tried disabling any kind of overclocking ? (the same for your processor or RAM)

When you say that your PC crashes, are you referring to the BSOD (blue screen of death) or the game is closed unexpectedly?

And, when you say that you ran system scanners, do you mean the SFC tool?

Did you tried reinstalling the programs to see if that makes a difference?

If not, I think that worth it using the option C.

Hey, thanks, I really appreciate your reply.

Currently I'm using windows 10.

I've downloaded the latest windows update but I did so to attempt to repair the problem.

It started when i downloaded my newest game, I meet the minimum requirements to run the game.

I don't have my gpu overclocked though

Its crashes to desktop, it does not crash to BOSD

I did run the sfc checks previously but they reported no problems.

Thank you. Did you tried to delete this newest game to see if the issue persist?

If yes and if the issue persist I can advise you three more things before concluding a hardware issue:

A. Can be a bit dumb but try connecting your PC on a different room and directly to the wall socket

B. Perform an in-place upgrade for your system ?(don't worry your content will remain)
