PC and Xbox divide... Xbox One gen left behind?

I don't fully disagree with what you said about the ethics etc but then how many major corporations would give warnings? Would Apple give you warning if you bought a current gen iPad when the next gen was releasing the next day? Would Sony have done likewise with the release of the PS5?

As to games: I would need to dig my One X out of my cupboard to check if only 11 games are listed for cross-platform. I just checked the Xbox App on my PC for cross-platform and there were more than 50 games listed, a lot of which I know are available on the Xbox One. Granted some probably can't be played across generations etc.

Performance of the One X versus other platforms: Unless the other platforms have identical hardware, then I'm not surprised. The One X may be only 5 years old but the hard drive in it is from around the time the original XBox One released (2013)...when I used to play Forza Horizon 4 on my One X, it used to take up to 2 minutes for me to go from clicking the game to start it to being able to drive a car; on my PC it would take less than 30 seconds (I have a modern 2020 M.2 SSD in it) and roughly the same time for the Series X.

There are lots of games that require less resources to run. But that’s not the reason why Xbox one games are necessarily not made. It takes time and money to create an Xbox one version of a game. It Hass to go through testing, it has to have a dedicated team working on that particular port, and eventually not enough people are playing on Xbox one to justify creating that version. As Microsoft allows these games to be available via the cloud, Xbox one is not being left behind, they are being given ways to play these games.Usually two years into a generation, the previous platform is all that abandoned, well most things have an Xbox one version today, and they’re only starting to leave it out, probably specifically because of the cloud option

I bought my console right before the next generation was released, from an official outlet.

I was not a console gamer prior to this purchase, and was not aware that such expensive consoles would be obsolete within 2 years of purchase.

I received no warnings that the console was about to be discontinued/become obsolete.

A corporation is happy to take money, but less willing to deliver the service paid-for/expected.

I am (not really) sorry, but I strongly disagree with your argument re. 'natural to favour new generation consoles', from an ethics perspective.

Any console that is bought should work as advertised, otherwise be refunded/compensated.

Re. the 11 cross-platform games in search results:

I searched 'all', and filtered using 'cross platform', in the Store via Xbox One X.

There were 11 listed,

2 of which had already installed,

1 which I have installed was not listed,

and the rest I would not waste the memory to install.

A lot of games are performing far worse on Xbox One X than on other platforms using the same limited Internet service.

Memory on console is good, it is kept updated, all hardware components are from official outlets (excluding the controller I currently use, as the 4 official controllers I own all do not work properly - from new).

Xbox is killing the gaming industry.

It's not just Microsoft, though.

Large investment corporations have also been applying a stranghold on online games, putting profit over fun/qualory of service (eg. IVP).

Xbox, being a gaming console, should be focused on delivering much more for its customers, not just seeking excessive profits from us.

Bringing old games to new consoles and/or a different platform is up to the Developer of the game in question rather than Microsoft...sometimes games simply can't be done because licences are held by another company not willing to allow it.

It is natural for development companies and publishers to be focusing on the next-gen rather than on a 5 year old technology (in the case of the One X) and 9 year old (in the case of the One). Microsoft are still releasing a lot of big games on both generations such as Forza.

As to your final points:

Points 1 and 2 are, in all likelihood, related to your point 4, namely your low-end internet. I have a decent internet: Xbox party chat is just as good as talking to someone on a telephone; cloud gaming is, mostly, problem free...however, there is sometimes lag or launch problems when the servers are busy (such as when new Game Pass Quests release on a Tuesday)

Regarding only finding 11 cross-play games on the Store: What is your criteria for searching? I only ask as there are a lot more than 11 games that support cross-play between generations. This article has a list of cross-play games (not sure how accurate it is and, granted, not all the games are brand new) as of April (although the article was updated in September):

#1 - You can only take Advantage of the Hardware at 1440P which is much lower Res then X-Box X 4K Res.
#2 - On X-Box Series Gen Under 4K Res the System gets a Serious Downgrade compared to the 1440P Res.

It's not just X-Box Series Consoles this Gen? PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Slim, & PlayStation 4 Pro is also being left behind this Gen, as well... They are even making things worst on PlayStation by making the Cost of your Game Pass up to like $100's where as on X-Box it's only $1 for 1st time Sign Up, & like $15 after that for the Ultimate Pass, & $30 for the Gold Pass, & you can't even play BC/With Retro Games on PS4 anymore, where as you can DL them from Disc onto the X-Box now...

Not only that, but Games like Evil Dead are Night & Day way better looking on X-Box then on PlayStation...
