PayPal password changed but xbox.com continued accepting purchases

Hi there, we set up an account for my then 12yo son 3 years ago. Last year we had problems with him buying points for a game without consent. We rang microsoft and they were quite helpful. We explained that I created an account for him as an adult (probably
mistake number one!) and that he didn't want to get rid of the account because of the accumulated points, and players, etc... We were encouraged to delete all payment options in the account which we did and since then we never had issues with that. The only
details we couldn't delete from the account was PayPal details as it was the method of payment for the subscription. So we thought that by changing the PayPal password we would be safe of further purchase surprises. However, 2 weeks ago my son discovered that
he could still use that PayPal details in the account to purchase points and so he did... The spending this time was astronomical. We rang microsoft because we want to understand how thought that our PayPal account was protected when it turns out that my son
is accessing the account without any problems, and I can assure you that he does NOT know the new password. We rang PayPal, they say that it's microsoft's fault that the PayPal link in our account doesn't prompt the person to enter the new password. Microsoft
says that it is an adult account and there is nothing they can do. I do take my responsibility and being in my late 40s being quite rusted with computer stuff. But would anyone be kind enough to explain how microsoft account does not stop a person from utilising
a payment method that is recorded in the account but it continues to use it even once we changed the password. Even Netflix, if you change a password, it will reset all the devices and request the new password. Isn't this a matter of security? Aren't passwords
the safety gears of 21st Century? It's really beyond me. Could I lodge a complaint, is there anyone who would be keen to try to help me here? Microsoft customer service called me last night, appalling service, the gentleman wouldn't listen, patronising, just

xbox not accepting new password

I've changed my password as a result of possible hacks recently. I'm now signed onto xbox.com. However, when my xbox asked for my new account details it's saying that my email/password is wrong. I've faithfully used the correct password; I've changed
the password again, if that was a problem. And still not accepting the details. Getting a touch annoyed.

 

How to Manage your Xbox LIVE payment options

Overview

You can choose to use more than one payment method for your Xbox LIVE account. The payment options include credit cards and PayPal accounts. You can use these payment options to buy items from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

The 2-year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract uses only credit cards as the payment option. The other payment options like Debit Cards, Prepaid cards and PayPal are not valid for this subscription. However, you can change your payment to another credit card.

If it is before the end of the two years and there is no credit card associated with your account, it is assumed you have terminated the subscription, and you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes.

It is easy to edit your payment options on your console or at Xbox.com

Steps to Follow

Add or change a payment option using your console

1) Use your Xbox LIVE gamertag to Sign in.

2) Proceed to Settings and then select Account.

3) Select Manage Payment Options, and then choose either of the following:

• If you want to add a new credit card, select Add Credit Card.
• If you want to use your PayPal account on Xbox LIVE, select Add PayPal. You will be required to enter your PayPal username and password. Follow the instructions to add PayPal as a payment option. You cannot use PayPal as a payment option for the 2 year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract. PayPal is not available in all regions.

4) After making changes to payment options, select Update Payment Option.

Add or Change a payment option on Xbox.com

1) Go to My Account.

2) Select Payments and Billings and click on Manage Payment Options.

3) You may be required to Sign in using your Microsoft account (email and password).

4) Proceed to do either of the following:

If you want to edit a payment option, select Edit.

If you want to add a payment option, you can do either of the following:

• Click on Add New Credit Card and enter the credit card information
• Click on PAY with PayPal and follow the instructions.

If you want your paypal off of the account you'll need to go here and remove the paypal from the account -

Sign in to your Microsoft account

Changing the password on your paypal doesn't affect the link you initially setup between the Microsoft Account and paypal as a payment method. To stop the person from using your paypal on the account, you'll need to remove that payment method from that specific
Microsoft account.
