If you purchased V-bucks directly from the Microsoft Store for your son's Microsoft Account, then the V-bucks should be directly deposited in-game. Sometimes it can take a few minutes after purchase to appear in-game. In the meantime, while the Xbox
is on, go ahead and do a hard reset and power cycle to
the console. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds or until it shuts down. Once the Xbox is off, remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 5 minutes. Then re-connect and wait 60 seconds before turning on the
Xbox. Holding down the power button on the console to force a hard reset is an important step.

Also, make sure the purchase was completed for the correct account by logging into that account here https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders/

get back to you with a fix

Check your Microsoft Account page here under Payments & Billing > Order History. It should include the code in the purchase details, which
can be redeemed here. When you redeem the code, make sure that you are signed in with the correct account you want to apply the code for.
