Pay for minecraft realms with microsoft account balance

My son wanted to purchase a minecraft realms subscription but there seemed to be a block preventing him from making payments with his microsoft account . We ended up creating a family safety account, adding him as a member, and enabling a payment method on his microsoft family account. Specifically, I put the money for the microsoft realms subscription in his microsoft account balance. Alas, he was not able to use that payment method to purchase the microsoft realms subscription and we had to purchase that through paypal. I then asked microsoft for a refund of the account balance deposit and was told that deposits to microsoft account balances are non-refundable and my only recourse was to dispute the payment for the account balance deposit with my bank.

Anyone else find a better solution to this conundrum? I don't expect ever to use the money in my son's account.

Hi Hedcraber,

Are you subscribed to access Minecraft Realm servers? You have to pay a separate subscription fee to access the Realms Servers.

Also the age that was initially used when creating the Microsoft account and is tied to your Xbox profile cannot be changed. The age on the Microsoft account is just profile information. Accounts under the age of 13 have multiplayer disabled by default and
would need a parent account to enable multiplayer.

You cannot pay for a Minecraft Java Realms subscription using your Microsoft account balance. I'm sorry about this, Robert. Payment options change by country, but usually only credit/debit card and PayPal are accepted.
