Party Problems (Nat Type)

Hello.

Since we got our Xbox Ones, it has been impossible for my friend and I to communicate with each other via party if one of us is hosting. If I send him a party invite, he will join, but a white X will appear next to his name. The same happens with my name
if I try to join his party. The only way we can communicate in a party is if a third person hosts it and invites us both. I'm assuming the main problem is a NAT Type issue. Mine is strict and his is moderate. I have no idea how to change mine to open or at
least moderate. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone know when the Party Chat will improve with the next update?

Just from my own personal experience I've noticed party chat runs smooth and problems free if the host NAT TYPE is open but having someone in your party with a strict nat TYPE could create problems...

 

Party Issues

We were in party chat yesterday, no problems then. Both NAT types are open, and we've restarted our consoles and routers several times.

 

I assume you have access to the firewall/router at your location. If not, you need to have someone make some changes to allow certain ports to communicate with the Xbox. The link below should help.

After adding the port forwarding rules, restart the Xbox and check the NAT settings.

And if after the above steps NAT is not open, I would suggest to try to set up a DMZ assigning your console IP address to it.

All needed ports will then be allowed and NAT should be fully open.
