    Party Chat partially functional/network ports?

Respectfully, I'm not at all happy with the website explanations I keep finding about what ports to open in order to make everything work with Xbox One and Xbox Live, so I am hoping somebody on here with some understanding of real networking can help out.
Any suggestions are welcome of course but I am a networking person (business networking, so I don't play around with stuff like upnp so I'm at a loss on discussions about such protocols).

Now just to get to the point here, my specific issue is that I have a group of 5 friends let's say but I can get almost no party chat to function with one of them, I'll call him Joe. If only me and Joe start a party, whether he starts it or I do, we can't
hear each other at all (our little blue circles don't light up, OR, mine lights up as I talk but he doesn't hear me, OR, we might hear each other for the briefest of moments, maybe 3 seconds at the start of the party, then nothing - more often it occurs that
he never hears me but I hear him for that 3 seconds). Yet if Joe on his own, or I on my own, start or join a party with any or all of our other 3 buddies, I still can't communicate with Joe, he can't communicate with me, but he and I can hear and talk to
    everyone else.

That alone tells me it's not my headset or anything local like that, but to rule everything out locally I tried other headsets with same results - actually just the default cheap one that comes with Xbox One (my main set is Turtle Beach Ear Force Stealth
    500x or whatever it's called.

So back to my networking gripe. First, I'll say that any consumer router will be a basic stateful firewall so you don't need to open any outgoing ports at all as they'll do so automatically. So my assumption with all these web pages that talk about opening
ports is that they're telling you to open inbound ports on your firewall. That would seem logical except for two things:

    1. Why the hell is it telling me to open port 80 and 53? Is my Xbox a web server now? On an unsecured connection no less? And is it also a DNS server now too? =P I understand that if my XBox wants to query a DNS server out on the net it'll send out to
port 53 ont hat DNS server, but at that point it wouldn't matter whether I had set up port forwarding or not, because the stateful firewall will expect a response from that Internet host, using whatever my assigned dynamic port for that connection would be.
I don't see the logic in port 53 being left open for unsolicited DNS traffic from Microsoft. Of course the inclusion of 500 and 4500 tells me that perhaps osme kind of encryption tunnel gets set up afterwards, but opening port 80 to the world, with nothing
but a Linksys or the like, is just nonsense

    2. The other thing is that the logic fails me on how anybody at a university campus for example, could have more than one xbox on the building network. If the setup should be that you have a static IP for your Xbox, then you "ask your IT admin to forward
the Xbox ports", you're effectively the only person that then can have an XBos on that LAN. That makes no sense at all.

Both of these things make me wonder if the people that say to opoen ports 80, 88, 53, 500, 4500, 3074 and the other one, I think it was 3544 (don't have the list in front of me as I write this), are talking about inbound or outbound.

So therein likes my confusion, please set me straight Party Chat partially functional/network ports? :) And if needed I can always just post the actual party chat issue without all the networking talk, but I strongly suspect that this chat issue is precisely due to somebody's port not open or what not.

    Thank you.

    :)

Rocket League PS4-XBO crossplatform network complete! Awaiting Sony's approval...

Party chat will only be available to live players. To chat with cross network gamers the app would probably need to implement some sort of voice or party function.

    Kinect Chat Won't Work

What is it meant to say in settings? It says stereo as it usually does.

Thing is I can hear everyone in game chat but not party chat, it seems to only be in effect with party chat when using Kinect at the moment.

But still doesn't make sense as I've done the Kinect chat several times before, it just decided to stop being functional now.

  4. Party Chat partially functional/network ports?

    Hello

Depending on your router/gateway you could just enable UPnP without the need to enable ports or add your connection to DMZ if nothing else works.

In your case it sounds like you either have a moderate or strict NAT and so does your friend who you called Joe in what you wrote.

    Chart to explain NAT issues

Also on the matter of DNS, having a default DNS server from your ISP can in some cases give issues with downloading speeds so OpenDNS or GoogleDNS is recommended to be entered.

As for people in college, you don't need an open NAT in order to play on Xbox Live, it just makes it easier to find games and reduces the chance of having lag

Series X - Headset mics (multiple) no longer work on any controller

    Disconnect from your current connection.

Advanced network settings>port selection and switch to another port

Clean the MAC again, reboot, connect the console to your phone's network as a hotspot, and test party chat again.

    Issues From Xbox 1 Updates

    Hi Hydroskillet,

I am now on update 6.2.13194.0. The restart now function is still inconsistent (hardly ever works as intended). As for party chat, I have been using wifi since that particular update to improve party chat functionality as it was stated to help strict NAT
issues as I have. Based on physical characteristics of my house, I cannot be hard wired and could not port forward because of being on an extender.

Xbox will not pick up microphone.

The Xbox party chat system and other services use network ports. I think your connection ports are limited or blocked by your ISP.

I recommend calling your ISP and asking them to set a fixed IP for the console in your router's DHCP session and open the ports that Live needs to work properly.

    Port 88 (UDP)

    Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)

    Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

    Port 80 (TCP)

    Port 500 (UDP)

    Port 3544 (UDP)

    Port 4500 (UDP)

Also ask to put the IP of the console in the DMZ zone, if you need additional ports this function will take care of that.
