Party Chat issues strike again

When I play video games, I like plugging my headphones into the TV so I don't disturb my family. Since I'm unable to use both my headphones and standard headset at the same time without it being very uncomfortable on one of my ears, I use my kinnect mic
for party chat. This has always worked for me...until recently. My buddy can hear me talking, but I can't hear him. The green dot next to his name in party doesn't bold up either. However, on his screen it does; both mine and his. Annoying issue, but
was fixed when I decided to play without headphones and use my standard headset.

Unfortunately, I had the exact same issues today even while using the standard headset. Both of our NAT types are moderate, so that shouldn't be the problem. We decided to open up the xbox one Skype app and use that chat feature instead. It worked flawlessly.
We were even able to chat and play at the same time (kudos to xbox one I guess). I guess it's not the end of the world (now we can communicate while one of us is dead in search and destroy haha) But seriously, can anyone help me out with this?

On an unrelated note, does anyone find it annoying that when scrolling through notifications you have to wait like 5 seconds or so before you can actually see who an invite is from? I get a lot of random invites while playing call of duty and it's a bit
frustrating to wait 5 seconds only to realize the invite is not from a friend (first world problems, I know).

Yep , had to use Skype in the background for friend chat whilst gaming.

 

I was told just the other day by a friend that your NAT can directly effect chat. I recommend setting both you & your friend's NAT to open. Just because the NAT is the same setting doesn't mean that's a good thing. Picture your NAT as a door in a doorway
with those settings. If both doors are only half-open/closed, it's going to slow you down significantly compared to if they were both open.

 

How NAT works is if your NAT is set to open, you can communicate with other open, moderate, or strict NATs. If it's moderate, you can the other person's NAT must be moderate or open. If it's set to Strict you can party chat with other people who have only
an open NAT.
