  1. Party can't hear me

This is the first time I've ever used an Xbox forum for tech support.

Every time I join a party on console, no one can hear me, but I can hear them. The ring doesn't light up at all. I've followed every troubleshooting step on the help page. I changed my privacy settings, checked my NAT type, changed controllers, power cycled
twice, and even tried using regular headphones with a mic, but they still can't hear me.

I don't feel like it's a headset issue since my Xbox recognizes that I'm using a headset AND It's happening with regular 3.5mm headphones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

  2. Xbox party chat can't hear me

    Hi there!

Let's see if we can clear that issue up with a soft
    factory reset
. On step 7 be sure to choose "Keep my games and apps" so you don't have to reinstall anything.

Let us know how that goes!

There are 2 standards for 3.5 mm headphone jacks, called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards, the microphone and ground connectors are reversed. So if you use an OMTP compliant headset on the Xbox, the microphone is "talking" to the ground connector of the
controller, while the console is "listening" for the microphone on a silent ground pin.

Please try the following: Open up the messaging tab on your console, and compose a message, but instead of typing text, press the Microphone icon, and try to record a message.

If you are able to pre-listen to your message before sending it, you being unable to talk in a party is a network issue.

If the console doesn't record your voice message at all, and all you hear is silence, then your 3.5 mm headset is probably incompatible.

You can try to buy a CTIA to OMTP adapter (or vice versa, as these adapters just reverse both connectors, they work both ways). That adapter can be found online or in any cellphone stores. Since the only purpose is to reverse two connectors, these cables
are dirt cheap, and if a store wants more than the price of a coffee-to-go for that cable, you're being ripped off.

players in party chat can't hear me

    Hey, Raaf!

Sorry to see any issues with party chat! It could be a network issue, but let's rule out your hardware first.

We generally want users to start with trying another controller if you're using a headset. If that ends up working, then it's likely the controller's firmware causing the issue; this would require a replacement controller.

If you're using Kinect, we suggest calibrating the Kinect again. If that doesn't work, either try that Kinect on another console, or try another Kinect with your console. This will help rule out either a console or Kinect issue. If your Kinect works on another
console, it's the console you have. If another Kinect works with your console, then it's your Kinect.

If you can, give any of those a shot, depending on your situation. If it doesn't help you out, post back your set up and we'll try to figure out what our next steps will be. :) We look forward to helping you out!
