External Hard Drive for xbox one

An external drive can only be used with the Xbox One. You will be forced to format the entire drive for that use. No partitioning is allowed.

can I use an external SSD on my xb1?

As long as the external hard drive meets the external storage requirements of the Xbox One then yes you can.

For an external storage drive to save games and apps from Xbox One, it must meet the following requirements:

It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.

It has 256 GB or larger storage capacity.

It has a partition. Typically, drives come with a preformatted partition. For more information about partitioning an external hard drive, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Partitioning my Xbox One external hard drive

You can not have a mixed use drive. The Xbox will format the drive and it will be for Xbox use only.

My Xbox One will not format my external

If you have a Windows PC, connect the external hard drive to it and give it a reformat. Sometimes, people need to give a hard drive an extra reformat on the computer because it's currently in a format that the Xbox cannot change (for some reason).

    - Connect the external HDD to the PC.

    - Go to "My Computer" (Win+E)

    - Right click the external hard drive, and select "Format..."

    - Ensure it formats to "NTFS", leave all other settings the way they are.

    - After it finishes, attempt to format the drive on the Xbox again.

NOTE: If your external hard drive came pre-formatted with more than one partition, you will need to reformat the entire drive so it has one and only one NTFS partition. You can manage disk partitions via "Disk Management" in Windows.

    Hope this helps!

    External hard drive

    Hello There,

For a external drive to be able to save games and such it needs to be Formatted to NTFS on an Xbox one FAT32 if an Xbox 360. If it is FAT32 on an Xbox one will treat it as a media device. The partition on the external hard drive could be the spot that is
bad you will need to get with the manufacturer or your manual to re-partition the drive.

    Thanks,

    Brad

Can I watch movies from my external hard drive?

to watch movies from my external hard drive on XBOX One, you will have have to divide the drive in to smaller partitions ,i noticed that XBOX One and 360 can read a 128gig USB thumb drive, then i tried this and it works

I have a 2T My Passport USB 3.0 drive . and create smaller partitions works fine, I actually split the drive equally on a 2.0 USB external drive and that worked also

not sure what is the largest partition it will read I will keep experimenting
