  1. Partially formatting external storage on Xbox One

Is it possible to only format part of an external storage device on the Xbox One like you could with the 360? I have a 2TB drive that I'm using for extra game storage, but I don't want to use the whole thing on my XOne, I'd like to be able to use it for
    my PC as well.

    :)

  2. External Hard Drives: De-Formatting From Xbox One

I am going to tell you how to remove the formatting on a External Hard Drive from a Xbox One.

    Requirements:

    Xbox 360

    1. Insert external hard drive into Xbox 360

    2. Go into System

    3. Go into Storage

    4. Press 'Y' on External Hard Drive (Will be called "unformatted device")

    5. Click on Format

    6. The External Hard Drive will now contain the Xbox 360's formatting.

    7. If you do not want the Xbox 360's formatting on the External Hard Drive, all you need to do is format the External Hard Drive on a computer. Otherwise, if you don't care that the Xbox 360's formatting is on the External Hard Drive, then ignore this step.

Hope This Helped Anyone Who Did Not Know How To Remove An Xbox One's Formatting From An External Hard Drive!

  3. xbox one problem

My xbox one external storage isn't playing anything. it'll load up partially and stop or go back to home screen.

Thought it was only downloads so went and got disc copy of a game and it still does it. made room on internal storage for disc game works great. is this a software issue or is it the external storage altogether.

    Hello Crhlife,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand you have storage questions. The biggest factor would be the format. As in Xbox 360 they are formatted FAT32. On an Xbox one it is NTFS. This means when you format all data is lost. Also games will not
be usable from a 360 external on an Xbox one unless you re-download due to the different formats. Also on the Xbox one, Your external HDD must be USB 3.0, at least 256GB, and must be formatted for use by the Xbox One. You can view the requirements

    here
    .

    Hope this helps.

Xbox one can read pictures from external HD but not movies or music?

    Hi Pascal,

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. To have it as a media device, where it reads music and that. You would need to format it for that which is FAT32. Unfortunately, it will then not save games. It is also not advised to split the HD or create
dual partitions, on the same external HD. To best utilize both, you would need two external one formatted for media, the other formatted for games.

    Set up external storage

To use external storage with Xbox One games and apps, your hard drive must:

    • Hold 128 GB or more
    • Connect via USB 3.0

When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as
    media storage.)

If your Xbox doesn’t recognize your external drive, see Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox
    One
    .

Note Xbox will recognize only two external drives at one time.

If you cancel formatting when you connect a storage device, you can set it up later:

    1. Press the Xbox button
to open the guide and select System > Settings >
      System > Storage.
    2. Select your device, and then select Format for games & apps.

    Thanks,

    Brad
