    Parental controls

It amazes me how so many parents either don't know about or just don't bother with parental controls. Or game ratings for that matter. Take an interest in what your kids are doing. While I don't play with children (all on my friends list are adults (unless
they are a family member)) it angers me that parents either allow their children to play games inappropriate for their age or don't educate themselves on the types of games available. Just because it plays games doesn't make it a toy.

    :)

    Parental controls

My mates and I call them "Xbox Orphans". left in a room with an xbox to keep them out of mum & dads hair and left to do what they like. We are the free babysitters lol. The unfortunate side effect to this is everyone is now staying in party chat so as not
to listen to the filth of abuse from these kids. The content isnt always necessarily the problem (within reason & depending on what, with what age) as most kids know the difference between reality and a game... it's the interrelation with other gamer (online)
within that content creating an aggressive, ant-social competitiveness at the expense of decent gamers resulting in a very racist, masochistic "lord of the flies" environment. Simply ask a female gamer and she will tell you the sort of abuse they put up with.

I forgot i posted this. It was a bit of a rant but let me explain. My nephew has a PS4 and the family chipped in and got him a descent 32' TV for his play/game room. He turned 13 this past summer. So he's at the age where he wants to play titles that are
a bit more mature which I'm OK with cause I think he can handle it (the game itself I mean). So I hook up the PS4 to the new TV and he proceeds to play COD Ghosts multiplayer. Heres what I found upsetting. He didnt have a headset so gamechat was coming through
the TV speakers. I hear a mans voice talking to a child extremely innapropriately about very sexual things. And the child responding like no big deal. But you could tell the older voice was leading the conversation. I know it may have been a 16 year old with
a very deep voice talking to a 12 year old with a younger sounding voice but my ears were telling me late 20's early 30's talking to a 6 or 7 year old. Anyway I immediately told my nephew to mute and report because i felt he wasnt mature enough to handle what
I was hearing. So parents please instruct your kids in the dangers of playing online. Use the tools available to help protect your children and teach them to use them as well. If there is a game your child wants to play learn every thing you can about it.
Dont succomb to "All my friends are playing it" . That just means their parents are ignorant. I can go on and on but I'll stop here cause I'm getting myself angry all over again.

My 11 yr old just signed up for Xbox live. He wants to add players but I won't let him add "friends" just because of what happened with your nephew. Is there a way to play with strangers but not actually talk to them on the headset but have it muted for
certain players? Hope that makes sense?

The best thing I can say is only allow him to play with people he really knows. I haven't really dealt with the parental controls on my Xbox yet as my girl is only two and not playing games yet but I think there is a way to set communications to friends
    only.
