Parent account not valid - Problems with child gamertag. I messed up!

OK, I'm in a bit of a pickle!!

I was trying to be all tidy and organised, and wanted to link my sons xbox live account (free account), to his laptop.

Just because it annoyed me that when he goes to his onedrive it has given him a random gamertag.

In the process everything seems to have got muddled.

The gamertag he wants to keep had an old email address which can no longer be accessed.

His new gmail address is linked to the random gamertag.

I gave the random GT a new temp email and made that the primary one.

I then deleted the email he wants to keep from the random GT.

I then logged in on account.microsoft.com with the unaccessible email he wants to keep and added the email he wants to keep, and deleted the old one.

I was very pleased with myself.

Then I went on the xbox itself to check, but it wont let him sign in as it says 'your parents microsoft account isn't valid. Your parent needs to choose a different account to manage your xbox profile'

I haven't made any changes to my email address. But went through the process of putting in email, password, and then credit card details for verification.

But it then says it can't do it at the moment.

I am no longer pleased with myself and neither is my son.

Not sure if any of this has made sense, but do any of you know what I can do to fix it?

It is an xbox 360 and we are in the UK.

Gamertag missing

To make the story short:

- a did a mistake removing from family the account of my child

- I added back the account and changed email to a new one

- both accounts (child and parent) see each other as family members

Problems:

- parent privacy & security settings : cannot see my child's gamertag

- child - privacy & security settings : I get an error

- child - change gamertag: error too

- parent can log in to xbox live

- child cannot log in xbox live: error says parent account is not valid

Help to solve this mess is needed!!!

Parents account not valid

I had a similar issue where signing in on the 360 with a child account would show the message "Your parent account isn't valid".

What worked for me and got the account back to normal was to remove the child account from the family and
re-add it using an Xbox One. I had also removed my account from the console but I don't think that this had anything to do with it.

When adding the child account to the family on the Xbox One it also asks to select a parent Xbox Live account/Gamertag to link it to which is what might fix the "isn't valid" error.

Not sure if you're still having the issue, but that might help.

Good job on changing round the email addresses. I see you posted this thread 2 days ago, have attempted to verify the parental ID again since? If the error message continues to flag up you will need to contact xbox support. You can do so via
here, select the appropriate tab and following option to which you can either select a call back from microsoft, or chat with a support staff agent via their chat system.
