Panzer Dragoon Orta is running in japanese on english Xbox One

Recently on Xbox One released Panzer Dragoon Orta has japanese text ingame. On a Xbox One set to english, region UK.

I am running the game from an original disc. It shows english text in the menu, the tutorial, the intro narration and during cutscene when played on my original Xbox (the first one, not a 360). Same disc in the Xbox One shows all these texts in japanese.
There is no indication in neither the xbox store, nor the "manage game" screen that states it's a different language version. Also, there is no way to change language somehow. Panzer Dragoon Orta never had an ingame language option and there is no way to
change it from the outside, apparently.

But it ran and still runs in english on the first Xbox. I just checked it.

Sega Support is already contacted, although they don't list the game on any of their pages.

Had to report it under "general issues"...

Rent a Hero No 1, I loved that game though I think it was Japanese only. Panzer Dragoon Orta, it was on rails but I loved it.

Is the Gamertag that you posted here with the same Gamertag that is currently playing this game title on the console? If so, are you able to clarify if your account region matches where your console is physically located?

Also, do you know which region this disc was purchased in?

 

Xbox Support already went with the xbox one system reset where language and Region was set again.

Yes, the Console itself is physically located in Europe and not Japan (and never was).

As support pointed out, the disc says "NTSC-J", which is very much likely a japanese disc.

But it runs on my PAL classic Xbox in english. So there is english text data on the disc itself, so why did it download only the japanese text on the Xbox One?

And even if the 3,5 GB download on the xbox one was just an "emulator" and not the game itself, why didn't it use the english data on the disc?

Yes, is my gamertag.

I did some research and asked a friend for help.

He has the US (NTSC) version of the game, and when he plays it in his german (PAL) Xbox One, he has german ingame text. Even marked in his library with a german (de) suffix in the title.

Then he switched the console region to english / United States, and the game was english again.

I repeated that, and it does not work for me.

The game stays japanese, no matter what region and language I select.

It is possible that this issue lies with the disc itself since it is from a different region than which you are currently located. We'd recommend reaching out to the retailer where you purchased this disc to discuss any possible refund/exchange options.

The game was bought years ago and as I said, it runs perfectly fine with english text on my classic Xbox.

The question remains:

Why are owners of a PAL or NTSC-US PDO disc able to choose the language of their game through their Xbox One console language setting, but NTSC-J disc owners not?

Because the disc does includes the english text files, it apperently just ignores the consoles' region setting.

So is this a bug in the backward compatibility for this game or some weird kind of discrimination?
