P50 WD Black Problem XBOX series X

I recently purchased a WD black 1tb ssd for my series x and for some apparent reason my console detects it as a media drive and not External to play last gen games off of .I tried everything and still can't get it to work. I formatted the drive plenty on times thru my windows pc and Mac and still I'm unsuccessful. The drive works using it on Ps4 and Ps5 but not on Xbox. Any help guys I would appreciate it thanks.

I am also using a WD Black P50 (NVMe SSD 2TB) with my Xbox Series X and It works just great on last generation games. Make sure to plug the drive into your Xbox Series X and then format the SSD drive for games (you also have the option to format it for media). The drive must be formatted using your Xbox Series X (NOT a PC). Happy gaming .

You have to format it through your xbox console, windows or Mac formats won't work learn how to do so here .

I have the same hard drive. There is no option to format is through the xBox. It also thinks the drive is not USB3 which is maybe why it's not giving the option to format.

If it works on your ps5 then you are doing something wrong

Ps and xbox uses different formats

Ps uses exfat while xbox uses ntfs with xbox security layer

And ps5 cannot read ntfs

If it's reading as a media drive then you are using exfar that the issue
