Overwatch - What To Expect

I havn't had much chance to play Overwatch due to work, family etc but its a great game to play in short bursts too.

Like others have said, it plays like an absolute dream and is great fun!

 

The game could be cherry pie but I will never touch it because it is competitive multiplayer. That is the one game mode that has never been enjoyable for me. Inevitably I'm the one who gets a few seconds of running after spawning before I end up as just
fodder for other, more experienced players. Like an animal in a shooting gallery. Repeat that several times in quick succession and... There is nothing in it for me. So you add cute graphics and animations, like flashy things to keep me -- the hunted animal
-- stunned and amazed? Thanks.

And I've been burnt buying into games on the advice of well-known Games Commentators who have sworn that they are innovative in multiplayer only to find it is the same old story: Other people ruin the game, from cheating, abusive vocals, twitch shooting
and latency (getting shot before your opponent even appears).. No game will ever be free from the selfish jerks. The winners are those who are either faster twitch shooters or who have found all the unpublished tricks (or hacks) to get an edge. And while I
might enjoy playing with or against bots, I would just be looking for the tricks that give me an edge over the AI.

And there's no incentive to try. The starting price is too high ($80 in Canada) and there is no free demo, or at least a try-before-you-buy timed demo.

Halo is competitive. So is COD. In my experience, Overwatch is more fun for me as you can change characters in battle each with their own abilities. And the graphics look pretty.

I guess we can talk a little about games in this forum section, cuz this forum section is like the only forum section on this site that isn't dead. Its like the most participated forum section on this site. Its like advertisement. You're going to post it
where it will get the most attention.

 

"Overwatch" is fun.

You can lose the match and have fun.

There are angry people on "Overwatch".

These are people who are struggling with a Team mechanic and/or struggling to understand why they cannot win 100% of the time.

Who wants a bad experience though. Keep an eye on it and see how things go.

Best news is, if you pick this up a month later than anyone else they don't have silly gear advantage. They'll know the maps better but will be working with the same tools as you.

 

So I have the game a couple hours trial tonight. I played against AI for the most part because, well, I have a poor opinion of other players. It's not a question of winning or losing, but bad sports. On my one and only quick match game with humans, one player
had to tell everyone "You players suck". So that's it in a nutshell. Plus we know by now that there are cheaters in the game, even the console versions.

And as far as I'm concerned, everyone telling people that the game has content and depth are grossly overstating the gameplay. It's a multiplayer shooter, just like any other multiplayer shooter. There is no value in diving deep into characters because the
fights are awash in frenzied and messy action and quick character change-ups. Like other multiplayers, you may find the walking from the spawn point to your objective is the most play time you get in a match. Tags, emotes, vocals, etc., are meaningless tokens.
If you want to know a character better you can take them into the practise area. I've seen the entire game in this one evening session and I'm already finding it tedious and boring.

I was right to think that I wouldn't like this game. This game is for people who like multiplayer. It's not for everyone, nor does it "change the game". I don't think that is possible. It should be a half-price title.

 

In other news, make sure you play D Va and McCree before their nerf. Obviously other characters will join them, but until then, enjoy the well balanced characters.

Some other fun things to do is have all 6 players on your team be the same character. (I still don't know why the game lets you do this) A team of Soldier 76's turns Overwatch into COD. lol

@ Spiderdust8, I'd say most would agree with you that Overwatch is overpriced. As for cheaters, what game doesn't have them?

Do you think you could please watch the first 5 minutes of "Captain America: Civil War" and tell me if it's any good?

For a game with no depth you seem to have drowned pretty quick.

Azrael008uk, this is tired argument that holds no water. People are more then capable of deciding if they like something of Media with moments and even seconds. In addition, your question is broken. It is not a matter of "good" or
"bad" but like or dislike, the two are not equal.

As for Overwatch, I figured out why I haven't picked it up yet. The PC has just the basic Game Overwatch available for $40. This $40 Version does not include "extra" skins and other items to which I am totally fine with that. The Console Version only have the
Origin Edition of Overwatch for an inflated price of $60. imo skins are not worth $20 for me and negate the entire purchase on Console until the basic Overwatch Game is available.

 

Maybe you shouldn't have thrown all that money at changing your gamertag?

Azrael008uk, lol you confused "worth" and an amount of money. 10 years later $10 is "worth" it. $20 for skins in a Game that is $40 on another Platform is not "worth" it.

When Overwatch is sold as the basic Game of Overwatch for $40, Ill "join the fun". Till then, I have my Games that I want to play.

But that is the very issues I think with MP only Games. The original concept was to provide the portion of a Game that a Community spends most of their time with (the MP) but without the cost of paying for a SP Campaign. Well that turned out well.

 

Titanfall,Battlefront and many more games that were hated because of lack of content,microtransactions,ect.....

Next time, all these games should be published by Blizzard to get a 10/10 and be praised by the same guys who usually complains about microtransactions,no solo campain,not enough maps,not enough game modes....

......

It's maybe a fun game but nothing special compare with other always online FPS.

 

Whether you like it or not it plays very differently from the current "Call Of Duty" model that so many games have been aping for years.

And if aping is your thing... you can even play as a great ape... in a Cyber-Suit!

Absolutely brilliant fun.

There's a reason it's doing as well as it is. It's fantastic.

 

So maybe my problem is the matchmaking (or lack of players on the Xbox One edition) because instead of being matched with other beginners I got matched with pros who were intolerant a-holes who couldn't suffer us for even 5 minutes. That's the kind of thing
that makes this game just like any other multiplayer games.

 

Oops. My last post said I played it on Xbox One. Actually, I played and purchased it on PS4, for reasons that aren't important.

 

I watched the Overwatch movie full cutscenes video by IGN on YouTube.

My favourite characters are widowmaker, mercy, d.va, pharaoh, that titan that can project a large forward shield, and the robot with the bird who can change into a machine turret.

As far as multiplayer, some matches take 60 seconds or a bit longer, but most in my experience can take 3-50 seconds to find players. I play mostly against other peps. I met only one person who swore, it was only a little though. But otherwise it's a fun
game. The graphics look so good on Xbox 1 too. If you want to avoid multiplayer, don't do player vs AI mode. Do Custom game.

I *might* get the PC edition, since I have a custom desktop PC with Intel's flagship 6th gen Intel Core i7-6700k processor, and Sapphire Nitro AMD Radeon R9 390 (384GB/s bandwidth, 512bit bus, 8GB GDDR5) and 16GB HyperX system RAM. I got the system 2 months
ago so that I could play The Sims 4, Cities Skylines and Planet Coaster on maxed out settings in 1920x1080 and my desktop does it with ease.
