Overwatch not launching after update

it only gives me the option to select Xbox ultimate game pass once I select A

then if I don't do it I have no option to get in the game and it keeps looping round from select A to 'choose the plan that's right for you'

it installs , then says it needs an update and I'm back here

its updating it from origins edition to legendary edition

I apologize but the game is an online multiplayer game which will require us for an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Xbox Game Pass for console is a different subscription and it’s a subscription where you can access hundreds of Xbox Game Pass games on your console however it will not let you play online multiplayer.

its a bought game from a shop that is getting loaded from a disc

if you don't do the update you can't play it and if you do the update it tells me I need a better subscription than game pass for console

If I may ask, what is the error or message that you’re getting whenever you’re trying to load the game with your disc inside the console?

Seems like the issue is not regarding to your game edition it is due to your subscription. The game requires Xbox Live Gold subscription to play it. It’s either you will purchase Xbox Live Gold subscription or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate since the Ultimate included Xbox Live Gold as well.
